Basic Word Problem.....Help?
Hey guys i cant seem to understand much word problems.. for example
"The sum of a number and six, multiplied by two results in twenty-two"
I need a math expression out of that.
If you have time can you please give me some hints on how to solve word problems. May you also tell me some words that i need to know to solve words problems for Example "of" Means multiply. If you know more please list them that would be very helpful.

Ok so sum means the answer to a addition problem. So you are adding a number and six, then multiplying the sum by two to get a sum of 22.So you can Try out numbers.
Ex: Trying out numbers
6 + 6 = 12 12 x 2 = 24 (the number 6 is too high so try one number less) 5 + 6 = 11 11 x 2 = 22 (That works)
This is the easiest way I do it cause you just plug in a number. If the sum you get is higher than the sum you need to get go down a guess number lower, if the sum of your problem is too low you need to add on a guess number. Your Welcome if I helped.

Let the Number be x
The sum of a number and six: x + 6
multiplied by two results in twenty-two: 2(x+6) = 22
2(x+6) = 22
2x + 12 = 22
2x = 22 -12
2x = 10
x = 5
The Number you looking for is 5

Let X be the "number". Then
"the sum of a number and six"
would be X+6
"multiplied by two"
would be 2(X+6)
"results in twenty-two"
so
2(X+6) = 22

The expression in this case is (x+6) * 2 = 22
x + 6 = 11
x = 11 - 6 = 5
In terms of interpreting the problem
"Sum of" => Addition
"Results in" => Equals
Write the expression by reading from left to right, creting the relationships as you go. Treat any punctuation (Full stops or commas) as braceted components (For instance in the above I added x & 6 before multiplying by 2 because of the comma)
Hope that helps
oh and also . . ..
"product" => multiply
"difference" => subtract

Try tackling it bit by bit, instead of solving the whole thing at once. For example, in the example you mentioned, you'd read "The sum of a number and six"- stop there. How could you express that?
a+6
Then "... multiplied by two..." Again, stop and see what you can get now. The previous thing we have is getting multiplied by two.
(a+6)x2
And finally, "...results in twenty-two."
(a+6)x2=22.
Then read the whole thing again, and see if it makes sense now. Good luck!

Sum of actually means to add so it: a number + 6 X 2 = 22 therefore a number = 5.

the sum (means you will be adding) of a number (lets just say x) and six (so you will be adding x and 6 together) multiplied by 2 ( times 2) equals 22
so it is
(x+6)*2=22
you could also solve this problem backwards too. so you would do (22/2)-6=x
