Christians would you ask God to pray for you?

Can Catholics see Mary as a God if all they ever ask her for is prayer?

Like pray for me that Christ will have mercy on me..........

How can it be said she is thought of as a Deity to be worshipped when she is always asked to pray for........... never to grant a request but to ask on behalf of.

The same as all the Saints only held to be the highest and greatest of Saints.. If you say we can't pray to the dead, then why did Jesus say God is God of the living not the dead? Where did Moses and Elijah come from?

Why did paul struggle with staying or going to be with the Lord?

Why does Revelation speak of the Saints around the throne, the thief on the cross, today you will be with me in paradise, is paradise the grave?

Scripture is clear that the righteous go to Christ to be with him after death, as it is clear that we are the body of Christ, can the body of Christ remain in the grave?

If you accept this then you have to accept that Mary along with the other Saints are in heaven with Christ and as Christ is still at work it's only right his body is too, so what work do they do? if not pray for us around the throne as the book of revelation states.

Thoughts please.

Update:

Did some of you know that it is forbidden to worship anyone, including Mary by the Catholic Church?

and could you read the question clearly and slowly please before the bigot in you raises up.

Update 2:

Hi shackle, yes sorry about the bigot thing, got a bit frustrated as you do here sometimes.

just a quick response,i believe the elders around the throne are Saints, who constantly pray for us, I don't believe a member of the body stops all activity in the body once they reach the goal, Christ is still at work as the head, safe to say so is his body!

Is this not how God has always worked useing people to do his will?even the Angels play a role in this intersession, should the Saints not play a role too?

would you or I stop praying for the members yet to be saved?

As I said short but I see your point, I am not into sola scripture, so can't agree with your view.

God bless.

    Well, for some of these "Bible-only" people that give ignorant answers.....oooops, I forgot to throw in "KJV", that is sooooo important to clarify......anyways, they seem to overlook Scripture where it states:

    Her soul magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:46-55)!

    1 Tim. 2:1-4, in which Paul says that we should all pray for everybody. So in the very same passage that Paul describes Jesus as the one Mediator, he also says that we should all pray and intercede for others. This is what Mary and the other heavenly saints do for us, just as people down here on earth do.

    Also, Mary herself said at the beginning of St. Luke's gospel (1:48), when she prophesied under the Holy Spirit, "Behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed." That is a prophecy that has come true in the course of Christian history, and it is the basis of Marian devotion, for that is what we are doing when we honor and glorify Mary: we are calling her blessed on account of all the marvelous things God has done for her and all the glorious graces he has given her.

    Peace be with you, Korban.

    As for your body after you die, you do go to be with the Lord, but your body does stay in the grave, cause when he comes in the rapture, he states that he is bringing back with him those who sleep in Jesus, which are all those that died and were saved, then he also says that the dead in Christ shall rise first, he is here pertaining to the bodies. We cannot appear before the judgment seat of Christ without a natural body which when our bodies comes out of the graves, he is going to instantly change them into a natural body. As for Mary and the saints. Mary cannot answer your prayers, there is no where in the bible that states that she can or what the Catholic's call the Saints. Saints according to the bible are all saved people and you don't have to be dead to be a Saint.

    Korban I feel for you, really, I've seen the questions you ask and how you back them with scripture, and whissshhhh it goes right over their heads.

    I also see what your getting at confronting what a lot here say about catholics. yet none of them seem to be around to refute the facts that show up the lie, all you get is a back draught from the wind going right over the heads, good luck, I suppose I should answer your question, Mary like all Saints was human not a God but human, one that was given great honour by God because she was the greatest of all of us in the whole history, her last words in the bible where do as my son tells you... says a lot don't it. God bless now.

    Hello Korban, I was born into Catholicism, was, baptised as a baby and had my Confirmation when I was 7 years old but don't remember any of what I was taught and what it was all for and I really had no choice in the matter. I do remember that I was taught to pray the Lord's prayer, the Hail Mary and a prayer to my guardian angel. These I continued to pray every morning and night right into adulthood for most of my life in a parrot like fashion, until I realized that it is only God to whom we should pray.

    1Ti 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

    and...

    Heb 7:24 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

    Heb 7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

    My thoughts are that clearly it is Christ Jesus who intercedes for us. The everlasting Priest. There is no need to have other mediators or intercessors.

    Through Jesus we have a hotline to God and He hears us when we ask in the name of His son Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Because He hears His son. So if we are in Christ we should be praying for each others spiritual welfare and the salvation of others. If we are in Christ we become the intercessors.

    Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

    Mat 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

    There are so many verses to back this up.

    I pray for the inevitable President (whoever it will be McCain or Obama) that will do the best of the best for our military men and women. Pray that God's shield is upon our troops. Then I pray and pray and pray for peace with our Nation with the whole world and most important peace among ourselves. Last but not least, I pray for no tax hikes and more money coming back to me at tax returns. Its not wrong to pray for our own benefits; we are all children of God. I will always include myself in my own prayers.

    All prayer is addressed to GOD the Father;

    Through the merits of Jesus the Son;

    inspired by GOD the Holy Spirit.

    Woah...lots of questions! First off, I'm Catholic and I will answer your questions to the best of my ability. I see Mary as a holy figure, not as a "God". You can pray to her and other saints (which I also see as holy figures) to have Christ have mercy on you. But you can also pray to them indiviually. I often pray to deceased members of my family to look over my loved ones, but I don't believe the rules of prayer are written in stone.

    I wouldn't say you'd see Mary as a God, because she isn't. She' is the mother of jesus. You can pray to her, and she can answer your prayers,as can other saints, Its what you feel the need to do and which saint you feel drawn to. For me St George I pray sometimes to, but only because he's the saint of the villa where my dad lived. its a bit special.

    the whole religion thing to me, is personal and its a choice you make.

    Yes we can pray to god and ask him for things like help , guidance and forgiveness of sins. We can also look for the intercession of Mary and the Saints to pray to God for us.

    Jesus is the only mediator

    Hebrews 7:24-26 (King James Version)

    24But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.

    25Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

    26For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
