Is 30 minutes a day on an elliptical trainer enough?
I have started exercising about 2 weeks ago. When I first started I was dying after 5 minutes at 40 RPM on my elliptical trainer. Now, I am up to 30 minutes, at alternating speeds but I am doing about 10 minutes at 60 RPM. At the end of the 30 minutes I am sweating my buns off and very out of breath, but it's getting a little less horrible every day. (I don't actually enjoy exercising, it's a chore for me) My question is, am I doing enough for me to be able to expect to see weight loss and possibly (gasp!) muscle tone? If so, how long should that take? If not, What should I change? (I have modified my diet, not to the extent that I intend to, but I thought I'd get in the exercise habit before I change my diet a whole lot...I don't want to discourage myself.)
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Sounds great. If you want to increase calorie burn during and after exercise on the eliptical, increase your resistance weekly. This burns more calories during your workout but also increases lean muscle and that burns calories all day - even when you sleep. Good Job!

The muscle built from exercise is dependent upon your genetic makeup. I can easily bulk up, but that's because of my genetics. If you continue to exercise 30minutes per day on an elliptical trainer and you are not eating too many calories then you will lose weight. If you are not losing weight then you can increase your elliptical training minutes or you can cut your calorie intake.
If you are gradually feeling better whenever you exercise on an elliptical trainer then you have a good workout routine. Forget about RPMs and worry about your heart rate. Sweating and weight loss are independent of each other

the other person who answered is correct, it's all about how hard you are working while you are on the elliptical and on the bike, but it also depends on what your goal is and where you are starting. if you have been doing this for 6 months now, you have probably gotten all the benefit out of it you are gonna get without increasing the speed or resistance. take a look at what you are trying to do and how long you've been using this workout routine and see what needs to be changed. working out has lots of general guidelines, but tweaking a workout so it's really working for you is a much more individual process, and only you know how hard you are working. hit me up if you wanna talk about something more specific, otherwise good luck to you.

I'm really against using any kind of cardio for muscle tone because that's just not how it works. Look at a long-distance runner's legs and you'll see what I mean. You need to (gasp!) lift weights. Sorry, there's no two ways about it. How you lift and eat determines how much muscle you'll put on...email me if you need that explained.
Your body is made to make its activities more efficient. What that means is that the longer you do something, the easier it will be and the fewer calories you'll burn. You'll have to keep increasing the difficulty with length of time and/or intensity to continue seeing results.
