Does climate affect Crohn's Disease?
I have had Crohn's for about 12 months or so now. It seems to only flare up when the weather is warmer. Recently I spent a few days in Tasmania where the average summer temp is roughly about 25 degrees C (77 F) and was colder when I was there, during this period I had only minor passing pain to attack free days (am unmedicated at this stage since my Dr is on holiday). I returned to Sydney today where the temps are around 37 degrees C (98.6 F), and my attacks are back to normal. Also during winter last year I had very few attacks but as summer came they resurfaced. Personally I'm quite heat intolerant and get physiologically stressed in heat. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any links between climate and Crohn's, or can link to some research on this. Or even if any fellow sufferers have had a similar experience to myself.

The stress you're feeling because of the heat wouldn't be helping your crohn's - stress and emotions can play a huge part in whether or not your crohn's is kept under control. I've had crohn's for 11 years and find I get sicker when I'm upset, stressed and emotiona.
I live in Adelaide where we get very hot and very dry winters, I feel like I'm always sick. Then I moved to Canada for a year and lived in the snow and extreme minus temperatures and have never felt so happy or healthy in my life. My Crohn's didn't play up at all whilst over there. I never really thought that temperatures could be a factor but hey anything is possible I guess!

Dr. Paula Rochelle in Grove Oklahoma, USA has treated people I know for Crohns with amazing results,
they were treated with antibiotics to clear their bodies of the pathogens causing the disease, this was several years ago and they were cleared of the symptoms of the disease almost entirely.
whatever she was doing was working.
as a mycobacteria the disease is probably agravated by high temperatures etc.
good luck
