which axe flat head or pick ?

im a fire cadet an want a little incite on which axe i should use they both have there advantages an not quite sure which one i want to carry it seems that the flat head has speed with cutting and cutting through roof tops when turned over an can also be used as a hammer but the pick has fall protection an seems to help in structural fires when it comes to braking down doors an cutting through wall i would like to know your personal preference please and why

I actually use the "irons", which is the flat head axe and halligan bar together. Then I have the advantage of having both tools handy, plus together as the irons they're very useful in forcible entry.

As for axes alone, I also prefer the flat head. There just aren't enough advantages to using the pick head for me to justify it as my off-the-truck tool. But the irons, hands down for me, are the most useful.

The choice of axe depends on the task.

On some of my rigs, we carry 6 different types.

Our flat head is packaged with a halligan bar and that duo meets most needs.
