Pagans and Wiccans: I am in need of assistance locating others...?

I am a solitary practitioner due to being isolated by an all christian and morman family. even my bf's mom freaked out when she found out i'm Wiccan.

I have been searching for others so I am not so alone but have found instead alot of chriticism and hatered by those that view Wicca/Pagan as a sin. only one person has come to me, and he has taken a "father" figure role in my life.

Im attempting to break the silence, and find others that are willing to mentor and share knowledge.

If you feel more comfortable answering me in private so you do not get criticised by the other users you can email me your answer.

please: for those of different faiths, please do not preach to me, state bible verses, or tell me im going to hell. this is a serious question and i do not go to your questions preaching to you. i expect the same amount of respect.

thank you

http://www.witchvox.com/ is a good place to locate resources near you.

Please be aware that if you are a minor, no decent Wiccan, father figure or no, is going to place themselves into a position where they are in opposition to your family's wishes.

Even if you are legally an adult, I recommend reading *a lot* before declaring yourself Wiccan, and perhaps finding a tradition (witchvox is not a bad place for that, too.)

http://wicca.timerift.net/ is a good website for the basics, and I recommend that as well. One of the problems many people have when they are solitaries at the start is telling good resources from bad. I think this site helps get your feet in the right direction.

Edit: I do not recommend wicca.com, as they post the words of authors without attribution or copyright data. You cannot learn an ethical system from a place that is ethically screwed up.

None of the sites mentioned above is mine. This is my opinion as a Wiccan for over 20 years.

Regardless of what SOME people (moiraes) may say, what you are doing, which is trying to connect with like-minded people, is not wrong. It's human nature to reach out to those that have similar interests and for someone to tell you you're wrong is just rude.

We live in a day and age (and if you're in the U.S., the country to a lesser extent) where we celebrate religious tolerance. Non-Pagans experiencing some slight anxiety, questions or concerns over your religion is normal but "freaking out" is unacceptable. Regardless of what their religion teaches them, people disowning you because of your religion choice is pure bigotry. You certainly shouldn't feel reprimanded by anyone, much less fellow Pagans by trying to find people outside your family. Isn't that why discussion boards, chat rooms, etc... are created for?

Definitely try what the others have suggested and go through witchvox to find folks in your area. I'm sure there are other Pagans on this board who are a bit more warm and receptive and wouldn't mind hearing from you either.

Although I don't really know much about Beltane because for one thing I have never celebrated it, I do know some about pagan rituals and "holidays" if you could call them that. I'm afraid I can't give any advice other than ignore pastor biker and any other foolish person trying to criticize what you do. Hall of skulls 7 makes a good point, How can you ask such a foolish question pastor? It is really like asking a cow what the meaning of life is, it'll just moo at you(if your lucky).

Witchvox.com There is a saying that when the student is ready the teacher will appear. Just read, and communicate with the gods. meditate and ask for a teacher. When it is time you will get together.

One more piece of information. Not all Wiccans are good, just like all Christians are not good. Listen to your gut, and no matter what they call themselves if you are uncomfortable around them listen and get away.

You need to go to www.witchvox.com and look for people in your area to network with. You can also search for groups and shops, which are good places to meet people. If you develop a support network of like-minded friends, you will not feel as threatened by the negativity of your family. Good luck!

i connected with my local community by joining yahoo groups. there are also google groups and meetup.com

go to the groups page and search 'pagan' plus the name of your city or area, and you should be able to find a group to communicate with.

    Hello there,

You might want to check www.witchvox.com for groups and like minded individuals in your area. Please use caution when interacting with others, as always, for your safety.

There are a number of good wiccan online forums as well. One that comes to mind is www.wicca.com.
