Installing 4GB of ram?

Can somebody tell me what I am doing wrong? I received this model of ram:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

I have a HP C571NR, and my "product number" is GF572UA#ABA, and it is running Windows XP Home Edition.

I have tested all of my ram modules, and they work great individually, but when I take a 2GB module and any other module (512MB, which were the ones that were included with my computer, or the second 2GB module), my bios never shows up.

Is this a problem with my motherboard? Is it not able to support 4GB? Helpful/insightful responses would be appreciated.

Update:

Damn it, my motherboard only supports 2GB..... this sucks. oh well, thanks for pointing me to the right answer!

Even though you've discovered the source of your problems, i feel like i should point out that XP doesn't support 4GB of RAM anyway. However, vista does. If you put 4GB of ram, I believe it will only show 3.25GB on system stats or something like that.

    Hi,

As far as I can see the max memory is 2gig.

The HP manual is not very helpful on this point.8-((

    It may need 2 x 1gig but I can't be sure.

I would check with HP directly to be sure that yo have the right memory and the correct configuration.

XP home being a 32 bit application will only use up to 2gig without the optional 3gig switch in the boot up file.
