L'oreal HiColor....What should i do?

I went to Sally's and bought the L'oreal HiColor for dark hair only and the color i chose was Cool Light Brown......the lady insisted I buy Oreor 20 Developer because she said that's what professionals use. I got home and searched the internet, it says to use 30 developer for really dark hair.

I have really light skin and the dark hair makes me look pale.

If I use the 20 developer will it lighten as good as the 30 developer?

Update:

Yes it does lift color and i have previously dyed my hair at a salon but I let it grow and had a hair cut so its my natural hair color.

I'm not familiar with loreal but I think 30 would be your best bet.

Do you have previous dye on your hair at all? Does this dye lift color?

Most cases, color does not lift color but there are dyes out there formulated to lift color and deposit, just make sure this is one of them.
