German Shepherd Dog Puppy turned 1 year old today. Should I change her dog food?
I have a German Shepherd Dog by the name of Bella. She just turned one on the 7th. I only want to give her the best & at the moment I am currently giving her Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy food instead of Blue Buffalo because her digestive system is able to handle it easier. I read the label on her bag of food and it is suggested that she continues to eat it until she is two years old. Well I have a friend that has his German Shepherd Dog (Rocky) on adult food already & it has been making me think that I believe it is time for me to start changing her dog food to the adult. I just was curious as to what other people felt on this issue. I am doing research but at the moment have not found anything to make me change my mind. Please help me with my current dilemma. Everyone on here has helped me in the past & I greatly appreciate all the help that you all have given me. Thank you ahead of time everyone for taking the time to even read this & give me your input.

Most large dogs continue to develop internally for several months to another year after turning one. Muscles, nerves, bones, and organs are still developing and strengthening. It would be wise to consult your vet, of course, but Eukanuba gives reliable advice on the feeding of dogs based on breed/size.

If you intend to be a breeder of this female dog then yes keep her on the puppy food but blend it with adult food too there are nutrients in puppy food that is good for a soon to be bread dog that will benefit the growing litter in her belly and when nursing too but if your not planning on breeding then a slow transition can be done over a two month proses two months because of going from puppy to adult you do it by the week not each day by 1/2 cup of new in with current food and 1/2 cup taken away of the current food then the next week do a cup in of new in traded of cup out of puppy food 1 1/2 the following week etc.... until the exchange in food is complete each week there may be a change wither the stool soft moo-shy should not be runny or watery if it is the the new food you are trading with is not agreeing with her and you need to go back to puppy food try another adult brand and start all over again so be care-full and good luck with your food transition

I would continue giving your dog the puppy food. Dogs usually don't stop growing till around 2-3 years old. Just because someone else already has their dog on adult food doesn't mean it is right. A lot of people don't pay attention to the labels and the best way. I would at least give it 6 months to another year before giving adult food.

Rocky may be on a different food to Bella. Check the Eukanuba food and see when it recommends to change to adult food - it will probably depend on her weight but I would think that a dog of her size changes to adult food between 12 - 15 months.

I have a Toy Poodle and she turned 1 in September the 17th i have been feeding her Eukanuba ever since we got her, but every now and again i change her food a bit to MyDog where you can buy from Woolworth's we also give her fresh chicken, lamb and beef just so that she doesn't get bored with anything. We will probably stop feeding it to her when she is 2 and start giving her adult Eukanuba.

Puppy food is higher in fat because the little guys are still growing. Your adult dog needs regular dog food! Consult the back of your puppy food.
