Guest House DIY dilema! Help?!?

I have a guest house that needs lots of improvements in order fr it to be a selling point for my home (yes i know i am insane to try to sell right now.) The problem is- my budget for this is low. WAY low. So here's what I need:

1.) A new front door for the house. preferably something very secure.

2.) a new door for the bathroom.

3.) i need to paint pretty much everywhere- luckily it's already white so i'll stick with that.

4.) the floors are concrete but have were painted a gross green ages ago. this existing paint is faded to nothing in large areas and scratched up like it's been in a catfight in the rest of the house.

5.) it has a gas wall heater that does not appear to be functional. i tried to light the pilot via the intructions but got no results.

6.) the shower walls look horrible. it looks like they are painted with a glossy waterproof paint- which is fine cept i didn't know that existed.

7.) I don't know how to light the pilot lights in the hot water heater or stove :(

8.) the 3 lower cabinets in the kitchen are doorless and need new doors or some other crafty solution.

that about sums it up i think. i really need to spend no more than 300 dollars and i know i am going to have to get REAL creative. As many ideas s u can give me would be the biggest help!

Update:

just so you jerks who intend to criticize me for my low budget know, i have many other repairs to make to the rest of the house. and i wanted creative answers, not critical ones from people who spend their late nights on yahoo answers with nothing better to do than be uncouth and unappealing.

Desiree really really outta line with the way she has responded.

But unfortunately is correct with the budget assessment of her answer. Here are real world prices (assuming you do all the labor) for what you want/need along with some ideas to save $$

Metal pre-hung Jeldwen door from Home Depot = $175.00

    new pre-hung interior door = $50.00

paint (assuming 3 gals of contractor white) $50.00

2 gals porch and patio paint (for the floors) $45.00

Have the heater checked by your local gas co. follow there recommendations (could be pricey)

    shower wall kit = $99.00

paint the kitchen cabs and use curtains, for doors like the old days. maybe $60.00

    Good Luck

I'm thinking you should do a cottage style type thing. That way nothing has to be really matchy-matchy or expensive and it's still considered cute.

    1. Look on www.craigslist.org they often have doors cheep or free because some one is changing out their door or a door is left over from a job site or something.

    2. Same as above.

    3. If you go to a paint recycling plant you can get paint really cheap or free.

    4. Again look on Craigslist. Sometimes you can get large pieces of carpet to put in. You could also do cottage style and get someone who know how to crochet to make you a bunch of large rag-rugs. You can make them out of scrap material and they are considered shabby-chick.

    5. Ummm, call the heater dude. Sorry I don't know what else to say.

    6. hmmm, other than getting paint at a recycled paint place I don't know what to say.

    7. Call a handy man.

    8. Go cottage style and put up curtains instead of doors. I think that was done a lot in the 40's or 50's and it is still "in" for cottage's.You could get a gingham or kitcheny type material (something with fruits or vegetables printed on it) and find someone who sews to make up some curtains for you. All you should have to do is give them the measurements and tell them what you want. It's pretty basic sewing so it shouldn't cost much. You can get some velcro and put one side at the top of the opening and the other side of the velcro goes on the curtains and they can easily be removed for washing.

I would avoid it. The potential problems it poses just isn't worth it. Certainly not without prior permission. You've got to ask first. Guaranteed if the people you're house-sitting for misplace something, discover something broken, missing or what have you, all fingers will point to your guest. It's also an uncomfortable position to put the homeowners in because they may feel by telling you "no" that they're questioning your choice in friends or that they're perceived as killjoys. Even if they say yes, they may not ask you back to house-sit again just to avoid it. I think they would have told you it was okay along with the other house instructions if they wanted you to have a guest. Save yourself the headache.
