Kitesurfing in Egypt?
we want to go to Egypt in April on a kiteboarding holiday. Some of us are experienced kiteboarders and others complete beginners so we'd need a facility that cateres for both. Have you had kiteboarding experience in Egypt and where did you go? I'm looking for a really fun and vibey place...

Hello,
I have had a kiteboarding experience in Egypt. It was in Dahab, which is on the Red Sea. There were two different spots where most of the kiters went, and they were very close to each other. The first was a very shallow lagoon (less than waist deep) that was sheltered so it was smooth like glass. This would be a very good spot for beginners, except that when I was there in October 2006, there were quite a few kiters there.
The second spot is near the lagoon, but is unsheltered on the Red Sea. This spot had equally good wind, but there was some chop and had deep water. This spot was much larger (open ocean) so there was much less congestion. It would not be that great for beginners though since it was wavy and deep. There is a lot of coral in the area (the whole Red Sea actually) so that is another downside for the beginners.
There were kite shops nearby so you will be able to find lessons and gear rentals (plus local knowledge).
The wind was side shore, and was absolutely perfect. All In all, I would go back to kiteboard. (But please don't go solely on my recommendation!)
Im not sure how the wind will be when you go, make sure you check it out. Like I said, I was there in October and things were very very nice.
The area was amazing. The Red Sea is a world class diving location (thus, snorkeling) and the coral is the best I have seen anywhere (Out of Venezuela, Brazil, and Thailand). The culture is very laid back and nice, and you could look across the sea at Saudi Arabia. I was there in October of 2006, and the prices were very very low. I was able to stay at a 4 star resort for under $20 Canadian per night. There were very few other tourists there (due to terrorist fears - I didn't experience anything frightening).
Run a search on Dahab or the near by town of Sharm el Sheikh and you will find some more resources.
