Who found America first...Christopher Columbus, the Chinese, or the Vikings?
We all know the story of Christopher Columbus and his voyage to the new world in 1492. However, there are conflicting accounts that say that the Chinese actually found America first. Also I've heard that the Vikings landed in Canada for a short period of time around the 10th Century before returning to Greenland. So its pretty interesting to find out who can claim finding North America first.
So who found America first:
1) Christopher Columbus
2) The Chinese
3) The Vikings
Please provide reasoning for your answer!

There is no proof that anyone found North America faster than the other.
In fact the nomadic Indians from Siberia found North America first when they crossed the Bering Strait in between Russia and Alaska.
But the answer to you question would be the Vikings. The Vikings, led by Lief Erickson crossed into Newfoundland, Canada and settled there.
The Chinese never came to America first because they would have settled and quickly established a government and a nation.
We all know Christopher Columbus came when he did.

America isn't bulit on a lie, rather not an entire truth. yes, your ancestors arrived first but aren't any more or less "native" than anyone else born on this continent. In Canada, they're called First Tribes which I like because it reminds us that everyone immigrated here at some point. As far as Columbus, it is now generally known or believed that Scandinavians, St. Brendan, and the Chinese were here prior to him. The differences are: none of them ever held a "press conference" nor were they in a position to exploit the discovery. Europe, at the time of Columbus, finally had the technology and will power to immigrate (for lack of a better word) to the Western Hemisphere. That is what makes his "discovery" such a powerful force for Europeans and Aboriginal Americans. It changed both worlds dramatically. Maybe that will help you determine if saying that Columbus discovered America is a lie or not. Some people demonize him, some idolize him, I've always seen him as just a man. But the United States, its ideals, its goals, weren't based on Columbus. So to say that America the nation is founded on a lie I would have to disagree with. If not Columbus, there were many others out there that would have "discovered" America anyway. Finally, just to clarify, the people didn't remind Columbus of India, he actually believed he had landed in what we now call the Spice Islands and that the people were related to India Indians.

All good answers, but I want to point out as a tidbit of interest, there is supposition that ancient explorers may have crossed the pacific from Asia to South America back in the BCs. This theory is based on the striking similarity of art between these two civilizations, but there is no hard evidence. If it happened, it was probably a ship blown off course or something like that. Either way, it did not return to Asia. Just wanted to throw that out there.
If by Chinese, however, you mean 1421, that book is disregarded by all credible historians.
Vikings were indeed the first Europeans on the North American Continent, but Columbus' discovery is the most famous because it had the biggest impact.

The Vikings reached North America long before either Columbus or Zheng He (the Chinese explorer who is supposed to have reached the west coast of the US in 1421) were even born. There is evidence of their activity in Canada down through the eastern portion of New England.

Out of the three, the Northmen (vikings). There is evidence of their settlements in Newfoundland. It is also mentioned in the Greenland Saga's. They called North America Vinland, and they called the natives 'Skrælingas'.

None of them dear!
It was the Indians. Before the continents broke up and started moving away from each other, Indians had settled in American continent also. In fact this is why you will find Indian settlers in many far away islands worldwide and this is not solely due to the British tea estate lords. However with time, many of their customs started varying from those original Indians who had by now drifted far away. These Indians in America were later called as Red Indians. This is the reasons why many basic beliefs, cultures etc of Red Indians and Indians are similar or even identical. Please study the history & culture of Mayan Empire and Indian Empires of yore. You will find a lot of similarities.

What was the story with the pilgrims, they landed and were greeted by Native Americans who spoke English?
There is supposedly physical evidence that the Vikings were here, way before Columbus. I read that they were as far south as Nantucket.
I read an article that it is not physical evidence that the Chinese were here.
