Is Tim Tebow overrated?
As a christian who likes football I kinda like Tim Tebow, but after hearing the game last night, its clear the announcers overrate him. Ive decided to break down his awards/ stats to see how good he really is (Im obviously going to focus on the negative because if you want to hear the positive you can turn on ESPN).
Heisman Trophy- Its nice, but it means nothing. Plus, its a media biased award that doesnt include the most important game of the season (bowl game). For example, does anyone think that Eddie George deserved the Heisman over Tommie Frazier anymore? What about Bush over Vince Young? Exactly, it often doesnt actually tell who the best player in the country is.
2 national titles- In my opinion this is the most impressive part of his resume. That being said, he didnt start in the first championship, and he didnt play particularly well in the one last night. He also has the unfortunate distinction of being the only QB to ever win 2 national titles without going through a season undefeated. Still impressive though.
Physical Skills- Its clear that Tebow is a physical freak. That being said, does he have the best QUARTERBACK tools? No. About 70% of Tebows throws are completed under 10 yards. Yesterday, on passes he threw past 10 yards he was 2 for 7 with an interception. His running ability shouldnt be taken for granted. He is a bull. That being said, he isnt a Vince Young type player who takes over games with his feet. He also doesnt have the ability to create big plays with his feet. He hasnt had one touchdown run this year that went over 15 yardes. My gut tells me that if they shared the load at the goalline like most teams do, Tebows running statistics wouldnt be as impressive (because they are mostly predicated on TDs and not yardage). He also projects horribly in the NFL, but thats irrelevant because Im talking in terms of college.
Intangibles- Tim Tebow is a GREAT guy. Not a good guy, and great one. That being said, I find some of the things he does suspect. For example, his Ole Miss speech. It can be deduced from the speech that apparently he and his teammates werent playing their hardest before that game. A good leader shouldnt have to wait for a loss to get motivated. I also feel like he takes way to much credit for things he doesnt do. In the national title yesterday he played an average game. He threw 2 bad interceptions and most of their offense came from Percy Harvin. The defense won Florida that title, but Tebow gets the credit. Somehow he is even credited with the first title win, a game he didnt start and only played about 5 plays in.
Overall- Tebow is a great college player. Anyone can tell that. He isnt, on the other hand, one of the best of all time. His record as a starter is 22-5. Thats a worse winning percentage then Matt Leinart, Tommie Frazier, Vince Young, Charlie Ward and Ken Dorsey. Of that list, only Leinart and Young recieved the media hype and adoration that Tebow is recieving.

As a college player, Tebow is prolly top 5 all-time with his leadership, desire, athletic ability and accomplishments.
As a QB, he's average. If you watched, it wasn't until the end of the game that Tebow completed passes of more than 15 yds, not counting the ones he threw for like 5 yds and let Harvin run 10+ extra yds after the catch. Bradford is a much more accurate QB who doesnt have Tebow's athletic ability and can't run like he can for those of you who compare their rushing yds (which is a joke) Playing in a spread offense like Tebow makes it much easier to find running room. You just can't gameplan for this guy.
If I was a NCAA coach and could pick any QB to have, Tim Tebow hands down is my guy. But if I'm an NFL coach, Tebow is possibly my short-yardage back, not my QB.

Is he overrated as a QB? Probably. Is he the greatest football player? No, but he is up there.
You mentioned that if it wasnt for the rest of the team, then he wouldn't look so good. DUH!! Football is a team sport. If everyone does their job, then the QB can do his, the running backs can do theirs, the recievers can do theirs, etc. Tebow is a leader and motivator. He leads his team and takes responsibility when things go bad (you mentioned his speech after the Ole Miss loss). He motivates them to do their best. If this was a backyard game, I would pick him. Why? because you may not have the best players and he may not be the best, but he would rally a team around him and they would want to do their best for him. If you get some hot shot that thinks they are God's gift to football and is not a leader and motivator, then others will not play to their potential. If he takes responsibility when things go bad... then give him credit when things go good. Again, football is a team sport. Tebow didnt win a national championship... The Florida Gators did.
(Florida's defense was on it that game (which says alot about the defense of the Big 10) and allowed 14 points. When the defense is working then the offense can make a few mistakes.)

He is not an NFL type of QB. As you said, he only played in the spread offense. He doesn't know how to play in a normal kind of offense in the NFL. He also just does not have the proper QB mechanics. Examples: Throwing motion, footwork, etc. Tebow won't transfer very well in the NFL. He could play as a fullback, or maybe a wildcat QB. Not much more.

First of all, none of those QBs won 2 national titles and 2nd, Tebow did say that his career would not be complete until he won a title as a starter. Tebow did have 2 interceptions, so did Bradford.........Tebow had 109 yards rushing and was not sacked..........Tebow kept a promise after losing to Ole Miss and didnt lose, that is leadership when you and your team strive so hard to do what you promise your fans.................get all of your facts staight in this case and dont second guess after Tebow and the Gators

Yep, 2 National Championships in 3 years and a Heisman trophy........Yep, yep...............sure is.................OMG
You wrote a lot to sound so stupid. Look at the game stats. For a guy that will SUPPOSEDLY be a great NFL quarterback, Bradford had 25 more yards passing and his completion percentage was 3.4 higher but Tebow rushed for 109 yards to Sam's ZERO. I am not a Florida fan what so ever but I know who I would want as QB for my team in that game everytime and his name is Tim Tebow!!!

No. He's Michael Vick or Vince Young. Except of course, that they were wrongfully taken in the 1st round as QB prospects, and he will not be taken on the first day if he comes out. why? I don't know. But, he has the same skill sets as they. (Slow Release, Athletic, Can't get to the 2nd Read, strong/inaccurate arm.... these 3 players are carbon copies of each other)

I think he is a little over rated.BUT he is a motivator and a high achiever.I think when he puts his mind to something he is dangerous.Time will only tell if he can take it up to the next level. But I would not count him out!
