Another horror remake, that is going to be incomparable to the original?

...just caught the trailer for the upcoming remake of "Last House on the Left", and I really have to say, it looks way too slick, to have the potential of being comparable to the raw, visceral, gritty and depraved original film. This is what made the original film so shocking...so much a film, where the viewer is disgusted and repulsed, yet unable to look away, at the horrific proceedings that occur in the story....

...now, a mere three years ago, an independent filmmaker, named David DeFalco, came pretty damn close, if not right on target, as far as equaling the unswerving shock and power of director Wes Craven's original film, with a veritable "...House..." remake, called "Chaos"; it was so irreparable and unflinching in it's depiction of the original story, and definitely warrants the attention of those who might be interested in seeing a 'true' remake of Wes Craven's classic cult film....

(...a fan-constructed trailer of "Chaos", as the actual trailer seems to be inaccessable)

...I can appreciate the fact that both Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham, who conceived of the original film, have a hand in the inception of this new incarnation (...and will probably be the only reason why I would entertain a viewing of the new film); but I am very hard pressed to imagine this new film, barely even beginning to hold a candle to the original. It's just not that easy to shock movie audiences in this manner, anymore, and the producers of "Chaos" appeared to have had the courage and the unflinching nerve to actually do that very thing....

....I am curious as to what you fine folk out there, have to think about, in this regards....

Arrrghhh, somebody mentioned Suspiria. My favorite horror film of all time!

They were at first going to remake it, then decided not to because the writers couldn't figure out what witches were doing in a ballet academy!

If you're thinking that straightforward and practical and frankly dull as dirt, you have NO BUSINESS REMAKING SUCH A GORGEOUS BLOODY DREAMY MOVIE!!!!

Now they're going to, and I hear that Natalie Portman is attached.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1034415/ I'm cutting off all my hair in protest. Stupid writers, stupid remakes.....

Okay, sorry to rant, At least, they cancelled the Rosemary's Baby's remake. Cried for days over that one!

I try to give remakes a chance. I really do. Take The Thing for example - the finest remake of a generation - and the main reason for my first statement. I expected to hate it because I loved the original.

What, in the 21st century, do yiu think will give us the same sense of revulsion and disgust that 1972's audience felt?

This is the age of go@tse, 2girls1cup, Saddam hanging for youtube and russian teenagers filming their murder and torture of a man for internet fame. What qualifies as 'depraved' these days?

However, once again, I will watch this - purely because it is a horror. I don't expect to be scared or disgusted - but then I never do, even with originals and the original did rely heavily on shock factor.

i was caught up in all the hype surrounding the original when it was released after it had been banned, and have to say i wasnt impressed, so any remake has to be an improvement on the original

A classic that cannot be improved upon.

    MARK OF THE DEVIL

Another original that should be left alone.
