Because he's also a lawyer, so he understands the basic principles of Constitutional law.

Because it's an immediate grounds for impeachment if he doesn't
Think about it
Fact 1 : The US Supreme Court has said that an American woman has a Constitutional Right to have an abortion
Fact 2 :When the President take the Oath of Office , he places his hand on the Bible and says
" I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Fact 3: Any president that advocates denying an American citizen their Constitutional Rights just violated their Oath of Office and should properly be impeached for it

there are many christians that understand that outlawing abortions in all cases is not right and will stop nothing. we call these people educated.
in cases or rape or incest or in the case where the mothers life is at risk then it should be acceptable.
Obama wants to keep it legal but have a lot more education on the matter to try and reduce the amount of abortions done each year.
if you were to have read his website during the campaign you would understand these facts.

He attended in Chicago a racist, black separatist church that honored Louis Farahkhan. Barack Hussein Obama professes his Muslim faith so it must be assumed that going to a church that is Christian in name only was done for political expediency. He is really a "ghost" as we know almost nothing about him. We do not even know where he was born. His family claims he was born in Kenya and he claims Hawaii but cannot provide prove of his birthplace. the fact that he supports the greatest genocide ever perpetrated on humanity proves that he is not Christian but one of evil intent. If FOCA becomes law, Obama will be responsible for more innocent murders than any tyrant before him in history. God bless!

As President he can not push his spiritual or religious beliefs on anyone, especially the Nation.
There are many in this country that are not Christains. Or that for other reasons support a woman's right to an abortion.
I do believe that prevention should be employeed first and foremost.

I think he is like me in this respect. I believe in following what God commands us to do through what God teaches us. What Jesus teaches us in incompatible with outlawing abortion because it a) does NOT love others as you would be loved, and b) does NOT spread the gospel in any effective way, shape or form.
I do believe abortion is a sin. I also believe that this decision of "when does someone become a person" inside the womb is one that God makes and just ASKING that question leads us away from God and into making God-like decisions. This is why I deeply appreciated Obama's response to this that it's "above his pay grade" (which he meant, it is for God to contemplate and decide, not us)
Does Obama support abortion? No. But outlawing it will do nothing to abortion but cause strife and conflict. Such things have NOTHING to do with what Jesus teaches us.
If we as Christians oppose abortion, we are to channel our energies into a) spreading the gospel, b) assisting expectant mothers/parents with making alternative decisions by making resources available, and c) reach out in all ways possible to share what Jesus teaches to avoid abortion.
Will all those things erase abortion? Unfortunately, no. God gave us free will to choose, and there will always be men who choose to do such things as rape a woman. But how we deal with that situation is what is critical, as Christians coming together to follow what Jesus teaches.
That's the best I know.
God bless.

Because many devout Christians are nevertheless Americans and believe their moral judgments are their own and are not to be legislated upon others who may not share their faith or who may have other moral judgments. "Render unto Cesar," right? Abortion is legal in the United States. Barak, like intelligent people regardless of their faith, knows to deal with it. Outlawing abortion won't stop it, anyway, and outlawing it is far beyond the capacity of the president, in the first place.

Oh, for the love of god...have you even read the Freedom of Choice Act? It only deregulates abortion PRIOR to fetal viability. Abortion after viability is still regulated. The so-called partial birth abortion is still banned, except where the mother's life is in danger.

You can still be Christian and back abortion plans.
And why did you use his middle name? Are you trying to make a non-existent point, or something?
- Anonymous1 decade ago
Perhaps he just believes people have the right to choose.
As well as that, if you make abortion illegal then you force it underground or people will travel to have the procedure done.

I suppose it's the whole "It's the Law" thing.
Having that nutcase neocon in the White House the last 8 years didn't change anything Einstein.
