Can you name some instances in which a group of people or creatures died so that a larger group might live?

I'm in the middle or writing an essay for school on Animal Testing. When I originally agreed to do the subject, I wrote up a list of points I was planning to cover. Now, however, I can't seem to remember what I was thinking when I wrote one of them down. I meant to mention an instance or two of sacrifice 'for the greater good', as corny as that sounds. Could someone please tell me of a few of such instances? Anything in which a small group died or suffered so that a larger group wouldn't.

These are not "Animal Testing" examples.

    1. Quarantine for Disease Isolation Containments

    2. Revolutionary War Heros and US Constitution Fathers who died in exile without property due to stand for independence from Britain

    3. Organ Donors - suddenly deceased

The only 'animal' one I can think of is the old "rabbit test" for verification of human pregnancy in which a rabbit was injected with urine from a possibly pregnant woman. When the rabbit died, they knew the woman was pregnant. (This was before stick pregnancy tests.)

that depend on how you interpret this. example dino and us could not have lived during the same time period. one they would kill us and we could not survive. they became extinct how this happen depends on your theory. what angle are you going to approach the idea of live. A large group of black people was killed in slavery in ordered to stop future killing. hope this helped

You could go biblical and use Jesus as an example or use a war as an example (which war is up to u).
