Back leg joint clicks?

I'm not sure which joint exactly But as she walked one of her back legs clicked. It stopped after a little trot and never seemd to bother her. She just turned 7 and is not ridden hard. So any ideas why? Has any ones horse ever clicked? Did you find out what caused it?

My horse's back leg does the same thing. Sometimes while we're riding his leg will sort of "lock up". The vet told me it's called "Upper fixation of the petalla". As far as I know, there's not much you can do about it. I jump my horse and still do all of my normal work. When he picks up his back leg to let me clean his hoof, it clicks the way you are describing. It's just when their tendon or ligament I can't remember gets caught on the bone or something. (Like when you move your arm and some tendon/ligament gets caught for a moment). The next time your vet comes out, ask them about it. It may not be the same thing, but it sounds like it.

This is not always a problem. As long as her legs are not locking up or getting sore then there is little to be done other than to feed a glucoseamine/chondriton supplement.

It is common for horses to have a click in their joints just like it is common for people to have them. If it ever bothers her even a little then call a vet.

I had an OTTB who clicked in both hind legs most of the time.

The vet told me his pasterns were subluxating, meaning that the joint was going a little past the optimal point and then snapping back. Sounds a lot worse than it is; he said not to worry.

We used the horse for lowlevel eventing stuff, with no problems, for over 10 years after that. Great horse; I miss him dearly.

My guy clicks, not all of the time but it's there. Right in the stifle.

I always assumed a 'click' meant arthritis.

My new vet said "no, that doesn't mean arthritis, old wives tale"

I dunno..but I do know that we just had a stifle issue with him. Thought it was an ACL tear but turns out he just sprained his stifle or it was slightly dislocated and I popped it back in before the vet arrived.

    ANYHOW...

he clicks and we are careful about warming him up slowly before asking him to do sharp turns or roll backs.

We will soon put him on a joint supplement.

I've heard my horses legs click a few times. Usually it's after they've been lying down, and then start to run soon after. They never even seem to notice. It's probably just her leg tendons clicking.

It's even happened to me a few times!

If it seems to be causing her any pain, or you notice any swelling, get a vet to come over and check her out.

My horse does that too I asked the massage therapist have for her and she said it is just the tendons making that noise, and there is no need to worry about it as longs it doesn't lock!!!!
