Can you tell if a piece is knit or crocheted after it is felted?
I have an idea to make a cat basket and felt it. I want to crochet a round bottom and then knit the sides, but I want to have some idea as to how it will look once felted. I have not felted before and thought this could be a fun project.

It's much easier to felt if you knit it. Crochet is too tight, and you need very loose stitches to felt. Don't knit too tight.
But in the end, it will be very similar. I don't think your cat will care one way or the other which you used. All he wants is that it is the right size.

I think you could tell if it were crocheted or knit after felting but if you are worried that having both is a bad thing, I wouldn't worry about it. Knit and crochet are both very nice and can totally work together.
Cheers!

Crochet is quite a good feeling when felt. It has quite a latch feel and looks quite impressive. Knitting also looks great and is a lot looser. I think your idea is fantastic and will work well.

the way to solve this would be to make a swatch and felt it, one in knit and the other in crochet.
then you can decide which craft you want to go with.
