If you're going to be watching a lot of movies with fast motion or watching a lot of sports, i would go with a Panasonic Vierra Plasma TV or maybe a Toshiba Regza-Sony Bravia LCD.

Plasma TV's are best for fast action & sports because of their super high contrast ratio's and ultra fast refresh rates(480mhz)! However, there are some expensive LCD TV's that are just as good like the Toshiba Regza series or Sony Bravia series.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend on a TV. Generally you can get a good priced Plasma TV that will look as good if not better than most high-end LCD TV's! Ask a TV salesperson what would be best for your specific situation.

And don't worry, Plasma TV's are NOT a dying technology and they are not being phased out by LCD's. There are technologies in Plasma TV's now that weren't there a few years ago like: pixel shifting to eliminate burn-in, anti-glare screen coatings to reduce glare, and new plasma gases that don't lose their contrast for at least 100,000 hours!!! 8 hrs a day = 30 years of use!!!

Source(s): There are so many people on this website that say Plasma TV's are dead or a dying technology! They obviously haven't done much research and shouldn't be entrusted to ask about TV's AT ALL OR EVER!

LCD is much better over Plasma. Plasma screens will 'leak' after a short time of say 1-2 years.

LCD 42inch give the best picture possible. >42inches the pixels are a little too big, not that you can really notice, and smaller than that sucks who wants a small tv. i have a ps3 on a samsung 42inch and its mind boggling. coolest **** ever. plasma is wack because if you leave it on or leave it on espn or something the bottom bar or anything that stays the same on teh screen for a while will permentaly burn into your tv and ruin it. also you have to fill the plasma back up after a while with plasma juice ****, lcd just works and samsung is great. im personally a sony guy but samsung looks just as good and isnt quite as expensive

Since you are going to play games on it you would be better off with the LCD. Plasma Tvs are better about burn in but do you really want to have to keep track of how much time you leave a display on screen. As far as makes they are all good brands except for maybe Phillips.

In my opinion, Samsung is really great. I never seen better picture. I'm actually selling TVs and you can believe me, there is no lcd television I didn't seen. I said LCD, because plasma is dead. I understand your choices, but, if you have funds, I'll suggest ln52a850. Superb lcd tv with functions galore and excellent picture!
