2001 mitsubishi montero - wont start and then starts?
Tonight I left work, got into my montero...turned the key and nothing...I mean nothing,no lights, sounds....nada. I made a call for someone to come and help. While waiting i opened the hood, looked at the battery, then got back in the car...i was looking at my light switch and turned it...the lights came on!! So I thought....hey....try and start it...and it started!!! Any ideas what the hell happened???? My stereo now requires a code to reset other then that everything seems normal.

Yeah it has something to do with your battery cables. Your car is not too old so they dont need to be replaced. just tighten the connection to the battery, make sure the connectors on the batttery cable are also secure

A dirty and loose battery cable will wait like a thief for the coldest, rainy night to let you down flat- just like that. Jiggling the cable might have made enough contact to overcome the resistance in the corrosion that time. Clean and tighten the battery cables. Is there a light under your hood? A little current draw for that helped. After you clean and tighten the cables reset the radio so you only, hopefully, have to do it one time.

Most likely loose/dirty battery cable connections. Wear safety glasses. Disconnect the battery terminals from the posts and use a terminal brush to clean them. Use baking soda and water to clean further. Follow the cables to their opposite connection points on the engine and starter and make sure they're tight before you reconnect them to the battery. Coat the terminals with grease after connection to help prevent a recurrence.
