Is Air Force Basic Training as brutal as other branches ?

My brother just joined the Air Force. I'm kinda worried about him because he's a little on the soft side.

I graduated in september of 2006. Its a joke honestly its all a mental game. they scream yell and whatnot but they cant touch you they can bump into you and thats about it. its more studying tahn anything make sure he keeps his mind clear for the questions they ask you. and basically GO TO CHURCH!!!!!! Even if he doesnt GO! its a nice breather away from the screaming. I kno it has changed in 2 years but its still pretty much the same. Wish him luck and you and your whole family. But its an easy thing. Tell him DONT offer to do anything no dorm chief no element leader crap. Unless he can handle being a leader.

I was in the Air Force from 1963 to 1968, Basic was at that time was a bit hard, but it is a lot less now. I would not worry much about your brother, if he can make it through the first three weeks, he should do fine for the final weeks.

I can only talk about my experience. I am in the Air Force, and when I went through, it wasn't all that bad. Granted, when you are there, you are scared, but looking back, it was nothing. I talk to the other branches, of course the Marine Corp has the tougher, but then looking at some Marines I know, I am amazed they made it through. The Army is the same way, I know they might be tough, but looking at some of the people who are in, you wonder how they made it.

Your brother will be fine. He might have it tough, because its a different environment. He has to get used to military life, plus being away from home and being with a bunch of strangers. Other than that, he will be ok.

Your use of the word 'brutal' shows me that you have no conception of the meaning of the word. The physical and mental training of a member of the armed forces may be tough, but then again it is meant to be tough; to strengthen the body and mind. This may be why your brother enlisted, to be toughened if he is, as you say "a little on the soft side" (your words, not mine). The word Brutal has a connotation of Sadism, and is inappropriate.

I went hrough Army basic in 2001. I also went through USAF basic in Oct./Nov. 2007. USAF basic was just as hard as my Army basic only that it is more educational and in USAF basic you don't use that annoying battle buddy system the Army uses when you need to speak with your instructor. The P.T. is just as tough. After years of only talking about it, the USAF has finally started the new 8 week basic training. Mine was 6 weeks. In 2001 my Army basic was 8 weeks.

    First, no basic/boot is brutal.

People usually do not fail basic/boot because they cannot handle the physical or mental aspects of it.

They fail, for pre existing medical conditions or injuries that occured during basic/boot.

I got through it in 1965 and if I could get through, there is no reason

your brother can't. They will tone and fine tune him to the point where you will be very proud of your brother, he will be fine. The US Air Force

is a great way of life.

When I went through I thought it was pretty easy. The obstacle course, or whatever they're calling it today, was about as hard as a elementary school's playground.

Yes it is! Boot camp is boot camp, no matter what branch you join.
