How is "global warming" hurting your pocket book and crippling our economy?

We are smart people right? Won't we just use this as an opportunity to advance in a healthier way? How does that cripple an economy? Seems like it would grow one if people are willing to take a fresh look at things and not be afraid to move forward gradually and eventually make progress for the betterment of the entire world. Is it because it is too slow for those who are used to raking in the bucks without regard for any lasting effects of their work? Can an entire country be that shortsighted? I can see for miles and the future of our economy looks pretty bright if you're looking in the right direction! Look up in the sky - see that glowing orb?

I know that people are cutting back their spending on things that are hurting their environment and that could be slowing the economy - but that doesn't mean they don't Want to spend - they just need something they can get behind that will let them sleep at night knowing they did what they could to protect the environment. If you are not providing something you are missing the boat!

Update:

If you block me from answering your questions then don't bother to answer mine.

Update 2:

How is it preventing the free market from working as it should? If it is a free enterprise system then anyone should be able to participate and hopefully profit. Right?

Update 3:

James don't forget all those folks that were living beyond their means in your accusation.

It is because people's feelings get hurt. People do not like to have options. If there is a choice, they could make the wrong one. If they make the wrong choice, they think they are inferior.

Therefore, the only choice is to stop the hardware store from selling those lower wattage bulbs, so I can go back to living in the comfort that there is nothing else I can do. They need to stop selling those hybrids because I just bought my CAR X and every time I see a hybrid, those snooty bastages put me down (just by existing!). They need to stop interfering with my life by giving me new choices when I am so used to just looking at price.

Global warming by itself is not causing any loss of money for me. What I and others here are concerned about is the spendthrift waste of money on pork "green" projects that neither solve the problem, or offer much of a solution. Most of what is going on today is supposed to give the illusion that something is being done, but at huge costs. When it's all over, nothing has been accomplished.

I also don't like the direction this country is headed, in this economy, those in Congress on up to Obama are talking about taking more money from us. I care about the environment, but not when, if Obama's energy "Czar" has his way, our utility bills will equal car payments.

Increased regs create barriers to entry for start up companies with innovative ideas. I can't just build a personal blimp and peddle myself over to the grocery store, now can I? No, compliance quickly prices such a simple build right out of feasibility. I know dozens of people who'd love one, and I bet there are countless others who'd love to get one, too.

Ever have to pay to replace a faulty O2 sensor? You know cars run just fine without them? It's only job is to report compliance during inspections...and it can't even do THAT right! Ever notice how this is a common occurrence? Who cares about quality control if your product is mandated by the state? Every car sold in this country costs more than it would if emissions weren't in the cross-hairs.

Ever test to see how long those dimwitted, curly bulbs last if you flip the light switch on and off 100+ times a day? If you've got kids, you'll find out for sure!...and they're filled with mercury to boot. It's not stopping the nanny state from banning the better bulb. Soon my only options will be oil lamps or fixtures that burn appliance bulbs...how fitting my lava lamp will still work!

You don't think an EXTRA tax, one not seen before, on the number of miles I drive each year, doesn't take money out of my wallet or kill tourism? It's coming. They're blaming the shortfall in gas tax "revenue" on hybrids here in NC...hybrids created in an attempt to meet current and future regs on gas mileage.

Keep thinking socialism is the cure for all that ails...then blame its eventual collapse on the shortcomings of us selfish, greedy people who believe people should get what they earn, not what they "need". If this were really about a global crisis, there'd be more talk of bans (like DDT, CFCs, and asbestos) instead of taxes, fees, and fines.

It's preventing the free market from working as it should. That hurts everyone.

If we actually pursue the green initiatives as laid out by the incoming administration electric power is going to be so expensive that people are going to switch to oil lamps for light.

All I know is that Al Gore is making a boat load off of this scam. It is the only way he has not dropped off the face of the earth.

When you limit the sales of light bulbs, that is preventing free market from working as it should. It's making people buy the more expensive and more dangerous compact florescent bulbs. (I don't think making people buy more expensive things really helps any economy).

If they took that trillion dollar give away boon-doggle and used it to begin 40 new nuclear plants we would be well on our way to your stated dream. Unfortunately that won't happen. Greens are less interested in alternative energy than they are in restricting energy or so it seems to me.

It is the major cause of the current world wide economic crash and its proponents are the same exact speculators that triggered the crash.
