How do I make my MacBook Pro run faster? Would a defrag help?

I've had my MBP for about 15 months now. Obviously, over time, computers run a little slower then they did when they were brand new, and I understand that.

My question is, would a defrag help it run a little bit faster or is it a hopeless effort? Are there any other ways to make this computer run like the beast it once was?

What do you think?

You'll get the best answer if you actually give me useful information and a source.

Thanks.

OS X doesn't need defraging due to the HFS+ file system which doesn't get cluttered with crap like the Windows Registery which is long past it's useby date.

    Info on HFS+ here

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HFS%2B

For the record - HFS+ doesn't actually "defrag" - what you actually do to OS X which is a Unix OS is restore permissions on the hard drive via the Utilities Folder and Disk Utility.

Apple is reported to be moving to ZFS from Sun Microsystems for its Snow Leopard OS. ZFS is light years ahead of HFS+

Assuming you are running the fastest MBP with 4GB of RAM my suggestion would be to run Onyx for Mac as suggested by the poster above me

    How To Defrag Macbook Pro

Computers DO NOT "run a little slower" over time, unless you're doing something wrong. (I have servers that have been running for 7 years (since we moved into this building), and they're as fast as the day they were first turned on. (Granted, not as fast as a new cheap laptop, but still as fast as when they were new.) Of course we don't fill the drives to capacity, or download viruses, or have 50 programs running in the background, just in case we need one of them once a month. Those things slow computers down.

There is no defrag on Macs because of the way the hard drive is configured.

One of the best applications I have used to clear out system files and speed up my laptop is Onyx.

Typically, a defrag does help to increase the speed slightly. You may not see any major significant signs of improvement at first, but if you make it a habit to defrag every once in a while then over time it will influence how smoothly your laptop should run.

You could take a look at this. It may help:

neither... they are excess of-priced. i choose to propose a Dell Inspiron computer, you is in basic terms no longer disillusioned and it will fee a million/2 as lots (no longer exaggerating Dell=$seven hundred, Mac=$1300). Plus they are better, consistent with overall performance purposes. you could actual improve to a quad-middle processor and get an upgraded pictures card (in case you like) and it will nonetheless fee below a Macbook.
