Canadian Citizen becoming a US citizen?Canadian Citizen becoming a US citizen?
my mother took a trip down to california. she is a middle aged divorce mother of three grown up children with thier owns lives.
she enjoyed being in california and wants to live and work there. she would like to be able to travel back and fourth from time to time so she can still visit her family.
She is a canadian citizen. Now from what i know "by the book" it seems like unless you marry a us citizen that is your only way.
Is there other ways of becoming ac citizen? I live here in Canada and its not as difficult as it seems in the US?
is this true? can someone help me out to my questions?
LOL GOSH! i ask myself my mom the same question. However, i think she's gotten sick of the way the lifestyle is here in canada. she's been living here for about 30 years. So she enjoys californias lifestyle.
She loves how she dosent have to shovel the snow and she can give her snow shoes away! HAHAHA!

Becoming a citizen will take a very long time. For now, her best shot is probably an employment visa. If she doesn't have an immediate family member who is a US citizen, then she will have to apply for an employment visa. For the vast majority she will need to have a labor certification from the employer.
What kind of job does she have?
There are multiple categories of employment US Immigration considers, from highest preference to lowest:
E1: Superstars. These are people like world-renowned scientists, international sports stars, and Academy Award winning actors. These people do not need a job offer. Also in this category are elite professors from top universities, and executives who have worked for an international branch of a US employer. These people do need a job offer.
E2: Professionals with advanced degrees and those holding exceptional ability in the arts, sciences, or business. These are researchers and engineers, also actors who plan to appear on Broadway, and top level executives who are taking control of a US company. These people (and lower categories) must have a labor certification.
E3: Skilled workers in a job requiring at least two years experience, professionals with a four year degree, and other workers (everyone else). These are nurses, middle level management, machinists, and landscapers.
E4: Special Immigrants. None of these are likely to apply, unless she is a minister.

Yes. Both the US and Canada allow dual citizenship. I am a dual citizen US and Ireland. My wife is a dual citizen also. We are both well over the age of majority (AARP members).

Really, unless she has a degree accepted for a TN Visa, she has to marry an American.
