if not, i guess I need to reset the ipod, but i want the movies on it!

yes it can, but you're going to have to sync it all over again. thats it. you're not changing the video file into any other file, it'll stay the ipod.file

If it's formatted in HFS+ windows will not be able to read/write from/to it.
You can install Xplay or MacDrive on the Windows machine to use a HFS+ Formatted iPod on Windows. You can download that here: www.mediafour.com
