Severe depression when trying to sleep.?

During the day I usually feel pretty good. I am hoping to go back to school next year and I am really looking forward to it.

However, when I am trying to fall asleep. I start to feel really pessimistic about the future. I just get this feeling that there is no point. I start thinking "What if I go to school and I fail?" or "Am I just going to finish school, get a job and that's it?"

I also starting feeling like there is no point in having friends. You are just going to lose them at one point. I ask myself why I even try to make friends.

The thing is during the day I feel the complete opposite. I feel good about everything. Lately I have been afraid to sleep. It only lasts a few minutes, but the feeling is so horrible.

What's wrong with me?

This happens quite often to people. I always feel more positive and excited about the future in the daytime. At night i start to stress, feel down and start feel hopeless as the night wears on. The reason you feel that way is because your giving yourself too much time to brood over your plight. In the day, you're probabaly busy at least more so than just sitting on the couch or in your room waiting to get sleepy at nighttime. Try to keep your mind occupied until you are very tired. Dont just lay down and let your mind and worries wander. Everyone has had your worries and doubts but it ALWAYS seems worse at night. So, if you dont like the way you feel in the evenings, just keep your brain occupied until your too tired to worry. Before you know it, you'll be awake again and ready to take on the day with a positive attitude. Once you get in the HABIT of not stressing about your life at nighttime, those feelings will naturally start to phase out. And yea......everyone gets jobs after school but that far from it. There are so many things to look forward to besides just having a job. Dont you want to fall in love, have a family, pets, vacations, share laughs, have hobbies?? All those things make life so full. If you cant get your mind of the negative........there's always a little miracle called ambien too. Good Luck. Keep moving forward :)
