Is 'Rose' short for Rosalie?

Rosalie is the french version of the late latin name Rosalia, which means Rose.
Rose entered the English language from German, but basically just means the flower by the same name.
So they are different versions of essentially the same name. However, they entered common usage separately and have little common history except that they both stem ultimately from the Latin "Rosa" (one through German and English, the other through Late Latin and French).
In any particular case, Rose could be short for Rosalie, but some people who go by Rose are just named Rose or something else.

It can be but not always. It certainly didnt originate from it. Rose was a name before the name of Rosalie. Its actually the names came from the two names Rose & Lee. Its also believed it came from the Latin and Italian Rosalia, an elaborated form of Rosa. Rosalia is also an Ancient festival during which garlands of roses were laid to honor the memory of fallen soldiers. Oh & Its just a guess but Im thinking your a twilight fan & random fact but it was most popular in the 1920s around about when Rosalie was made into a vampire.

I've heard of it being short for Rosalie, but I've also heard of it as just the name Rose, not short for anything. What does this have to do whith philosophy?
