Buy or Sell: an argument can be made...?

... for almost anyone as the greatest rapper of all time?

I was discussing this with someone earlier, and was wondering what the general opinion is.

Buy...only because there will never be a one official "goat"... so almost anyone can have at least an argument...some may not be very good...but some people just like to argue...

    I don't think so.

Sticky Fingaz, for exmple is a good lyricist yet, no one has ever said he was the greatest rapper of all time. Li'l Wayne on the other hand is an exceptionally weak lyricist for whom the arguement is frequently made. What's worst is people tend to site the beats he rhymes over as proof.

There's a larger number of rappers who could claim that title, and anyone who really knew anything about rap couldn't truly argue. And I think that's where you're coming from. . . but not even Method Man, Q-Tip, J-Live, Tupac, or Biggie could've claimed such a title.

I'd say it rests most firmly with KRS, BDK, Rakim, Kool G Rap, and possibly the GZA and Killah Priest. But the list is not finite by any means. I could've definitely missed someone. Maybe Jean Grae or R.A. the Rugged Man were passed over summarily. . .

Sell: only about 30 rappers can be discussed in that manner.

Sell there are only a handful that you can make that argument for and not look like a fool

For people like Rakim, Nas, Biggie, Pac, Eminem, sure...

But not for people like Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, V.I.C., or any other one of those ridiculous radio rappers..

    Sell I guess

  • Disagree.

Only an argument can be made for rappers with skills.

    Factually, yes.

But in my opinion, I think there are some rappers that when their songs are played, you should be shaking your head, not bobbing it.

When you say "greatest", it implies that a rapper is "great" or even average, which just isn't true. A better argument would be: "Which rapper is the least suckish?" Of course, the answer to that would be none of them, so this a pretty pointless question anyway.
