How do you make the special characters?

I would especially like to be able to make the root symbol the power symbol by using the superscript. I know how to do these things in a windows document but not in the yahoo users answer area.

    If you're using windows xp:

start -> all programs -> accessories -> system tools -> character map.

Then search for the character you want and copy and paste.

I go to another site (like type in the symbol on google) and then just copy + paste. It doesn't work all that well for the superscript, for for symbols like degree, pi, root, etc. it works well.

Go to"Start >> Run" and type in "charmap". This should open a dialogue with various symbols and characters. Some may not display properly on some sites, so be sure to preview first.

    ^2 = &# 178

    ^3 = &# 179

    +- = &# 177

    square root = &# 8730

Note: Don't leave spaces when you type them.

Type those into your answer, and they will look like that. After you have submitted your answer, go to edit answer, and they will become what you want them to.
