How do I completely kill and destroy...?

In a figurative style...I need to know how to completely wipe my computer. No, I'm not talking about the system recovery programs and stuff, because it has no effect whatsoever on this virus I've got. I need to know how to wipe the computer so clean that it's just like the day it was fully assembled. No operating system, no NOTHING. Please help, because this virus has screwed the hell out of my life.

Update:

This "virus" turns off Automatic Updates, makes random internet popups come up, jams the Start Bar occasionally, and whenever I go on the internet it seems to invigorate itself. And I used an antivirus program to scan; it came up with a Trojan-gen (something like that...) and also a smitfraud-c virus; I chose the "delete" option and it still didn't do anything to alleviate the pain. It just came back with renewed vigour.

Update 2:

Correction; not popups, but actual windows that link to actual sites that are valid, like Dex and such.

What are the symptoms your system is exhibiting?

When using your recovery discs, some options may not necessarily clean the system before "restoring" it so if you are using the recovery discs, make sure you're using the full on wipe the system before installing it.

Another option is to get yourself a copy of the UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) which has lots of useful diagnostic programs and utilities that can help you get your system up and running again including low level formatting and partitioning tools. You can download that at http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

Have you considered that the problem may be with the hardware itself rather than being caused by a virus? again, it depends entirely on the symptoms. The UBCD can check memory, hard drives, and other parts of your computer to help determine if something else is going wrong.

Be aware that it's a collection of utilities with a menu front end so it may take a little exploring to find what you need but I can hardly live without my UBCD on hand.

    http://dban.org/

Go download a disc from there and run it. That will get rid of everything and anything on your computer. If you choose the right settings, that's to DoD levels of deletion.
