Data transfer xp to vista?

So i have a new laptop which is running vista, and my old one was running xp. I bought from Amazon an 'XP to vista easy transfer cable'. Installed the program no problems but when I attach the USB cable to my old laptop i get a message saying 'unable to install hardware' and something about an error. So in short - its not working! I have also had problems with external hard drives in the past (my old laptop is really crap).

Are there any other options?

Update:

sorry, i should explain I am giving my old laptop to my mum so Its not like i am going to have 2 laptops! I just want to be able to tranfer all the data over before i give it to her.

Vista is more advanced than xp. Most times the two operating systems are not compatible with each other. People are more at home with xp even though vista has more better features.

Either use xp or vista and enjoy your laptops
