Why is drawing/depicting Muhammad (Muslim) a horrible thing to do?
I know even Muslims do not have depictions of Muhammad - this question isn't about the Denmark cartoon.
Is no depiction of Muhammad so that people are not inadvertantly encouraged to start almost worshipping/idolizing him?
If so, you already hold him in the most high esteem, could having depictions of him make your adoration any more significant or could it lead to a twisted form or adoration?
Is having pictures/depictions of God/Allah equally as wrong?
I've had Muslims alreay explain they are not so outraged about Christian depictions of other prophets and God because those people are part of Christian belief, but Muhammad is part of only Islam so it is of a special insult to Muslims for Christians to depict him.
But are Muslims allowed to draw pictures of God or other prophets?
If so, then why would drawing Muhammad be a unique wrong?
For childrens books featuring the events of Muhammad, do you not have pictures in them?
If so, do they just show the back of Muhammad's head all the time, or show him just as a shadowy figure with no detail?
Just curious about this.
skatespe: drawing is to create life? And only God makes life so we shouldn't draw it?? Be serious, surely Muslims draw animals and other people. This cannot be about creation. It has to be about idolatry.
Jesse: Although I appreciate your reply, I don't find agreement with your logic: Simply drawing someone is not idolitry. I know it can lead to idolitry! People idolize images of Jesus -- they say, "I saw an image of Jesus in the water -- HELLO! No one knows what Jesus looked like!
To make an image for intent of worship, well, yes that is utterly wrong.
But to have a picture for teaching purposes, how is that idolitry?
Or is it just to avoid any possibility of even appearing ioloitrous? Being a "legalistic" requirement, but offering no real scritptural support. Yes, God says do not make images of animals, but this is meant in regards of worship. Goodness, get serious here, you take photogrphs!!! What is the difference?

because in islam its believed that only Allah can make life, so drawing a picture depicting anyone is believed to be "creating a life''. thats why traditional islamic artwork is just designs instead of actual pictures.

Its to stop idolatry, but the dis-allowance of depicting mohammed has become a kind of idolatry itself.

I think Christians have something to learn here. idolatry also goes for the book and alter or even the crucifixion at they worship.
