Will my PowerPoint PPT's from '97 auto-convert for PP XP or PP 2003?
I'd want to add animated audio, GIF's and Movies to these. Is the Format still PPT? Do I risk losing anything? Thanks.....

Generally if there is a extension change in higher version, the lower version software auto convert that.like opening a .docx file in office 2003.But if you are going to open a older version into a new version os it should automatically convert, because all the new software must have compatibility for its old counterpart.

I never heard of it requiring compatibility for going up on the versions, it should load it without saying incorrect format

Yes, later versions of powerpoint supports all former versions
