How can I tell if my car has SOHC or DOHC?

My alternator died and I keep getting this question while I am shopping around prices to repair it. Please help me. How can I tell? I have a 2001 Ford Focus SE

if it does not say on the rocker cover then you may have to pull the timing cover off it to have a look it will have two timing wheels for dohc and only one for sohc i think all focuses are dohc and on the other hand all alternators for the focus should be the same unless you have the 5 cylinder turbo model.

When you look down at the top if the spark plug wires go to the center with a bump on both sides that is DOHC. also the eighth digit of the VIN # is the engine code.

Open your hood. There should be a label or tag toward the front of your grill. It is the emissions label. I will tell you there.
