Question about dog....Mini Pin Mix ?
I rescued a little dog around Thanksgiving and my dad "adopted" her and got her to the vet etc. They have the appointment for the spaying but now they think she may be pregnant. Would the Vet have been able to tell a month ago when she got shots? My dad says he thinks he hears multiple heartbeats in abdomen, to me she doesnt look very large, but dad says her nipples are starting to get really pink and hang a little. and a few days ago her vulva? or girl parts were swollen. I was wondering if she could be pregnant I dont feel a need to go to the emergency vet I am just looking for some REAL answers, I do fix all my animals to try to prevent this, I am not sure if she could have already been pregnant even if it was a few days before I found her?
she shivers, and is really pick about food. Help Please. also planning on keeping pups if she is pregnant, they will NOT go to the pound.
any info on this breed or small dogs is greatly appreciated
i found dog assumed she was a pup, she looked to be "thrown away" smelled horrible, covered in fleas, worms etc all is taken care of now. she was almost frozen, i think the temp was below 0 that day and wasnt sure how long she had even been outside. Would any of the symptoms that i mentioned be the dog going into heat?
we have had her 54 days, so I am assuming if she goes into "labor" it will be in the next week or two? what do I look for?
also how big are the pups because she couldn't look to have more that 1 or 2 I think? I hear up to 5 How?

Sounds like she's pregnant but we cannot hear the heartbeats only the vet knows what she is looking for and the x-rays will show how many pups..It's almost impossible to tell in the beginning when you took her for shots to tell at that time if she just became pregnant..A dog has a gestation period of just 63 days..You can take her in to be spayed and they will take the pups or if she gives birth she can have maybe 6puppies..Is your dad going to let you keep them all??This is a huge responsibility and very costly,so Think about the outcome..Take her in and if she can be spayed,do it,as it's best not to bring more pups into the world..I know you mean well but think about your dog..will she be able to handle this birth??whats if theres complications?? She;s been through enough being a stray

If the vet performed an thorough exam when she received her vaccinations, he should have been able to tell if she was pregnant unless she was very newly bred. Since you don't know when or if she was bred, it's hard to say. It's more likely she's coming into her heat cycle which can also create those physical changes your dad is seeing. Best thing is to take her to the vet to fine out for sure. Some vet's don't like to spay an animal that's in heat, but you first have to settle the pregnancy question.

it's possible that she's pregnant -- but only the vet could tell you.
small dogs seem to need C-Sections more than larger dogs -- so be ready in case she is pregnant and needs one.
