Would you join the military?

If so, what branch and why? If not, why? Thanks :D

Update:

I have tried to enlist (USAF), but since I am deaf in my left ear, I unfortunately can't :-(. But, my husband is military (USAF then US-A, with almost 10 years in). I would of loved to join and be a boom operator. My husband worked KC-10's while in the AF and I just fell in love with the jets! I was amzaed. But thank YOU for your service!!!

Update 2:

Jen K:

It is ture, the military is a lifestyle you either fall in love with or hate. I, personally, can not imagine a life that is not military...I just don't see how ppl do it.

Update 3:

Einstein:

I do not fault you for your beliefs. I can understand what you mean, as I know I could never be in the front lines and deal with war in that way. It is so hard for our service men and women to have to deal with these things but i have a deep respect for them doing what most can not (not to say you are one of the nots...just writing my feelings out).

Veteran here to answer your question. Yes as a matter of fact I did join the military, but I separated the same way I went in and that is because I wanted to. You see joining the military is a personal choice that cannot be taken lightly. Everyone for whatever reason joins the service for personal reasons and/or the sense of pride, duty, and service to the country. If I had it to do over again I would; however, I may have changed a few things here and there. For starters I would have picked a better job, I came in as an E4 because of my college degree and made E5 very quickly after that. Since the needs of the service dictate everything while you are "in". The service decided since contractors do the job better than the service members doing the same job my job was phased out along with any chances to get promoted There were some good things during my time in like making honor graduate out of my school, meeting my civilian wife, and making some good friends while I was in the service. The bad was seeing people get promotions based on how well they brown-nosed or appeared to be "squared away". After being passed up for promotion 5 times for the next rank that was enough for me to decide to cut my losses. That compounded with being away from my spouse, not making decent money, and putting up with a lot of stuff is what made me "get out". So its a matter of choice and is a decision that will affect one for the rest of their life and how it affects them is up to that individual.

Good for you Einstein - let other Americans do the dirty work for you. D - The best branch is the United States Air Force! (Of course I'm a tad prejudiced having spent twenty years in it) Really, the branches are all as good as each other. You really need to visit with the recruiters and get all their literature and talk to them while REALLY listening hard at what they have to say. You shouldn't let any one other than yourself influence your decision because everyone else will have the same prejudice I have. If you are serious and eventually join, I'll thank you in advance for your service and wish you the very best of good luck!!! I'm jealous of you - my time is over and yours is just beginning! Wish I could start over and do it ALL again, even Vietnam!

i am in the army and i regret joining. its a huge decision and once your in your stuck with it whether you like it or not. if you really want to be in the military i would go air force. i hear its a little easier. the military can be great for some people or it could be a huge mistake. Good luck to you!

I'm considering joining the air force after I graduate, maybe full time or possibly as a reservist.
