Seems scientists, like the ones who sent men to the moon, were well respected and trusted. Bad people began calling themselves scientists and making fantastic claims. Politicians jumped in for the money, too. Movie and TV are collecting on the same scams.

In short, as others have said, fear sells. Simple.

Politicians and entertainers are famous for low morals, always have been. Anything they say is questionable.

Have teachers always been untrustworthy, too? Honestly, I do not know. They certainly are, now.

Reading the actual science instead of web blogs will quickly show there is no "end times predictions" anywhere in the science.

since the beginning of time experts have predicted our demise, don't worry, you already died in a massive nuclear attack, right after the solar eclipse wiped out the rest of humanity,by the way did you survive y2k?

Science gets a good audience and lots of attention with ghost stories. In my youth it was drop and cover in the event of nuclear strike. I stayed awake at night thinking about all these ghosts. Nothing happened and I had a very good life working and raising my kids. I hope nothing is allowed to hamper your pursuit of happiness in life and that the election of good leaders will keep the balance. Ghosts do exist, and in children's lives, the parent will have one or two more questions to try to answer.

    Source(s): I ain't afraid of no ghosts!

Global Warming a religion for some people. End Times is from the Bible and since most people believe in God they have heard, "the end is coming". Promoters of Global Warming exploit that familiarity. Been happening for centuries.

Y2K, Ozone hole, Nuclear Winter, Super Volcano Winter, Meteor Strike Winter, 2012, blah, blah, blah.

Children are easier to indoctrinate. They believe what they are told and don't have much understanding of science or economics. They're like your typical democrat, except they have the excuse of being children.

Could it be when TV learned scary stories sell better than true stories.

Shame though. Children are loosing interest in science because it can no longer be trusted. That could mean no more great real scientific discoveries? or is that just another doom and gloom scenario?

"Global Warming" is a political agenda wrapped in a scientific argument. Nothing more. And it's a well known tactic of politicians to use fear to scare people then demand money so they can "protect" us.

Look at the number of people who believe "Global Warming" will end the second the US president signs the Kyoto treaty.

At the same time science becomes dogma.

Democrats have a thing for scaring people with the whole global warming garbage and all that stuff. I just tell kids to ignore that trash that they have to learn in schools
