I believe it's in honour of their original owner John H. McConnell who passed away last April.

I would think it would be a JHM though,

It's JHM for John H. McConnell the majority owner who passed away during the off season. Mr. Mac, as he was referred to by the team, also gave more than an NHL team to Columbus. He was a major donor to Columbus and Central Ohio.

Yeah it actually says JHM. John H. McConnell who was their only owner in their history passed away during the offseason. He is almost solely responsible for bringing the city of Columbus an NHL team.

He said it was his gift to the city. He was truly loved in Central Ohio.
