Minimum age to join the Army with an Option 40 contract is 17 (with parental consent) and at age 18 you can join on your own.

Billy, you do not know what you are talking about so it is best if you do not hand out advice. Ranger School has NOTHING to do with becoming a Ranger. Once RIP is completed and passed, the individual will be a Ranger and assigned to one of the three battalions within the 75th Infantry Regiment. Period.

Rangers attend Ranger School when they are ready to hold leadership positions within the Ranger Regt. as that's the entire purpose of the school, leadership.

First, do you want get the tab, or be in a ranger batt. To go to ranger school, you need to get approved by your command, and meet the physical fitness scores needed for the school. At this time, it is 70 points in every category, in the 17-21 age group (regardless of the applicant's real age). To get into a ranger battalion, you need to be male, have an infantry MOS or optionally another MOS that is in need within the regiment. Then you have to meet the 70 point scores above, and be airborne qualified. You do not need Ranger school to be in a ranger batt, you just have a better chance of going later, and you have to graduate Ranger school before you can become an NCO in a ranger unit.

The minimum age to join the Rangers is the same age to join the Army, 18. If you are active duty, and infantry, there is a good chance will get the chance to go to Ranger School if your command or contract allows it.

Get an option 40 in your contract, and don't sign anything until it says option 40. This will get you to airborne school and R.I.P.

To become a Ranger and wear the tab you will have to wait until they select you to go to Ranger School when they think you are ready. Otherwise you're just in the Regiment but you arn't a real Ranger.

If its not in your contract, its not guarenteed. don't let your recruiter talk you into anything else... they are car salesmen... they may not lie to you, but they will withhold a ton of information you need to know. That's basicly silent lying.

If your recruiter doesn't want to give you the option 40, walk out on him/her and find another recruiter who will.

KJ, you don't know what you're talking about. I just signed an option 40 contract. Get lost KJ!
