My skin has become very dry and flaky, what can I do to help my skin ?
I'm 23 years old, I've been using Neutrogena Wave and when I did, my skin kind of dried out, but not like this. Now I'm using the Neutrogena Wave then Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer SPF 30, and putting on my make-up after those two things. To wipe off my make-up I originally used make-up clothes from Neutrogena, but now I'm using Jean Pierre Cosmetics' Eye & Make-up Remover Cleansing Towelettes. I use a type of mineral foundation from Laura Geller make-up. Patting the brush I use for that foundation on the back of my hand before applying shouldn't effect my skin like this right? Anyhow, if someone can tell me why my skin has become very dry and flaky and can tell me how to help me fix this, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. I try to pat water on my skin, but it just goes back to being very dry and flaky. O, in the areas where it's dry and flaky, the skin feels a bit tight.
Also, how often should I be washing my face especially since it's winter AND my skin has become very dry and flaky?

It sounds like you are using a lot of products for your face. While moisturizers are good for your skin you need to be sure that what you're using does not have any alcohol in because that will contribute to the dryness. Also use these in moderation, don't use them every day if you don't have to. Give your skin a break from any kind of soap, moisturizer, or makeup, and just let the skin breathe and gain its own natural oils to hydrate itself.
You could also use vaseline on your lips and your eyes to remove makeup or hydrate it. I would suggest doing this at night since its especially oily and it might be hard to put makeup on after you've had vaseline on your eyes.
Drink lots of water so you stay hydrated in general. Splashing water on your face might help a little but it needs to come from within if it's going to last. You can also take vitamins like Omega 3 or Fish Oil which will help your skin, hair and nails look healthy and hydrated.
Overall I think the most important thing for you to do is to give your skin a break from everything, and let it do its own thing even if its for just a day or at night. Whatever products you buy make sure they do not have alcohol or anything that will dry out your skin. If you need to get rid of the flaky dry skin, use an exfoliator like St Ives Apricot scrub, or simply use a wash cloth and soap.
Hope I helped!
*In addition: You could invest in a humidifier so when you sleep at night the dry winter air won't be as harsh on your already dry skin! :)

You may not have dry skin, you could have a condition call seborrheic dermatitis. Try a little hydrocortisone cream and see if that helps with the flakiness. If it does, you may want to go to a physician and get a prescription. Mine gave me ketoconazol and Elidel. You don't want to use the cortisone cream on your face for an extended period of time because it will age your skin. I thought I had dry skin too and the more I'd moisturize the worse it got. The condition is similar to dandruff, except it's on your face, especially around the nose, mouth, & behind the ears. When I started using the script the doctor gave me twice a day, the condition cleared up & now I just use the cream when I get a flare up. There's no cure you just have to manage it. Good luck. 2D

Those cleansing towelettes can be known to be really drying.
Personally, I have really sensitive skin and I found that the best thing for me was to skip all of those name brands all together. There's just so much in there that you don't know what's doing what - and really, you're trusting your skin on a name brand alone.
I think you should try for a few days what I do.. it might help you alot.
All I do is wet my face in the shower, then I take a Q-tip and dunk it in a bottle of Witch Hazel (you can find this at Shopper's drug mart.. or any natural health store) and I dab it on my blemishes as spot treatments. That's it. My skin has a chance to moisturize itself normally without being bombarded with a ton of chemicals.
Also, with the mineral foundation, I use the same thing and it tends to feel tight and dry also. So really, it could be a number of things!! But try what I suggested! It might just be your holy grail of skin care. :)

Winter is always a time when skin gets dry and flaky. But it sounds like maybe you should switch to a different moisturizer to use underneath your makeup. Oil of Olay is pretty much the best thing ever, my mom used it for ages, and now I use it. It's a time-tested thing. Any of the oil of olays are good but they have different ones for different skin types. If switching to a different moisturizer doesn't work, try switching your makeup. Also, don't just moisturize under makeup, do it before you go to bed, when you're not wearing makeup, etc, especially in the winter like this. That's my advice. Also don't pat water that doesn't do anything.

Your skin type is dry, therefore, you must be using water-based products. In actuality, you need to be using oil-based products and remember, in your case, moisturize your face twice a day after cleansing. Since winter is harsh on the delicate skin, you might need to move it up to three times (make sure it has SPF because UV rays shine through even in the winter times)! That should take care of it

Your skin is probably dryer than usual because its winter time. During the winter its important to change the kind of face cleanser you use. I would recommend switching to a cream cleanser and pairing it with a good moiturizer. Also use a good moiturizing foundation primer before applying your foundation. If you like aveeno they have some good face soaps you can use. I personally love aveeno products. Here are some good alternatives:

Those paired with the aveeno moisturizer that your using now should help alot.

stop using the wave all the time it's drying your skin out.
switch your moisturizer since clearly, it's not helping you.
i suggest you apply the moisturizer twice a day, in the morning and at night and see if it gets better.
when your skin stops flaking and maybe during springtime you can continue using the wave.

try pure lanolin available at health food stores. It feels nasty and and smells a little. But it works very well and you only have to use it every few days.
