Has anyone else noticed this connection between Twilight & Harry Potter?

I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

In Twilight, Bella lives in Phoenix & moves to Forks.

In Harry Potter, Dumbledore owns a phoenix, & that phoenix is called phawkes (pronounced 'forks').

Has anyone else noticed?

    Yes!!!

I thought I was the only one!!!

    You're very smart :P

Maybe in 'MIDNIGHT SUN' Edward gets a bird named Dumbledore, and in another HP book Ron will become pale and sparkly and eat Haggard's blood!!

    OH NO, RON, NO!!!

Quick!! Lock him up in Azkaban and let the Volturi eat him!!

    :-D

All the connections are just coincidence and are common and not all the blacks(hp) can change into dogs and it's not even giant sized and they're not even werewolves. Only Sirius can change into a dog, because he is an animagus. While Blacks in Twilight aren't actually werewolves. They're actually a spirit that can change into a giant dog. You'll have to read until the end of the book to find about that fact.

I honestly doubt Meyer herself meant to do that. When I read Twilight I noticed "Harry Clearwater" (Harry Potter plus Penelope Clearwater) but I think it's just a coincidence... besides, even if it was copied, it's not a big deal.

Could be, but I think it's just coincidence. After all, Phoenix is the capital of Arizona, so it's SMeyer's way of using a place most people know.

Umm no, there is absolutly no connection between Harry Potter and Twilight.

Harry Potter is a wizard going to school and battling dark forces.

Edward is a 400+..17yr old, who eats animals to stay alive.

Harry Potter falls in love with his best friends sister 6 books in!

Edward falls in love with Bella, 4 chapters in.

Harry Potter is all about Magic, and good against evil with some romace tossed in there.

Twilight, is all about the love between a Human and a Vampire.

Maybe it's Meyer's way of giving a nod to the Harry Potter series. Authors have been known to do that all the time! But Fawkes is pronounced FAHWKS not FORKS. (No, I'm not yelling here - capital letters are used to denote phonetic emphasis.) Still, Meyer could have altered the name just a bit if she's meaning it to be a reference. My gut tells me it's not but you never know.

That isn't a connection. Fawkes is pronounced the way it looks- faw-ks. So you've got the spelling AND pronunciation wrong.

Seriously, the only similarites they have is that they're both of the fantasy genre and happen to be popular.

  • Um no... the phoenix thing works... but phawkes is NOT pronounced forks it is pronounced like it is spelled...

No, he's called Fawkes. Guy Fawkes was an English traitor who was burned at the stake for trying to blow up the King. Phoenixes regenerate by burning up.
