Dude, not really a Twilight fan, but not a hater either. I'm sure I'll see it at some point. But you pose an interesting question. I'm sure you've heard of Wolverine and the X-Men. As created and portrayed in the comics for about 25 years or so before being portrayed by Hugh Jackman in the movies, Wolverine was about about 5'3" to 5'6" and often called a 'runt,' and quite a bit more stout. What made Hugh Jackman successful in his portrayal of the character is that he truly embodied the essence of the character, regardless of the difference in his physical stature. If the guy you're talking about can act, and the film is made with respect to the source material, then the height difference shouldn't affect your enjoyment of the movie.

Actually, Taylor has really grown and buffed up since Twilight. He has gained 30 pounds in muscle mass and has grown about 2-3 inches. He will be tall enough and strong enough to look bigger than Robert Pattinson in New Moon. That's why the director was deliberating on wether or not they should get rid of Taylor but Taylor was consistent and grew strong enough so he can keep his role in New Moon. It was funny because he got asked in an interview how they are gonna make him taller and he said "They might put me on stilts or dig a ditch and the rest of the cast can stand in that" :)

Well, Taylor Lautner is about 5'11" and Robert Pattinson is 6'1" so it's not too huge of a difference. I would assume they will do with Jacob what they do with Hagrid in Harry Potter, just not to that extreme. Tricks of camera angles, in shots where they don't show their legs or feet maybe have him stand on something or where certain shoes.
For the 'strong' issue, he has been working out since Twilight stopped filming and has packed on 26 pounds of muscle thus far. You never know, I'm sure they will figure something effective out.

Well he's beefed up quite a bit. I totally agree with what theking_...wrote.That's what will make or break the whole movie is if they capture the essence of the book rather than everyone looking the part. And I think it's not all up to the actors to carry the movie,it has to be written, directed, etc. well.

If you were really a twilight fan, then you would know everything and anything about each character and who plays them. So apparently you don't know that Taylor is a body builder, and is quite muscular without any "movie magic". He also does karate and kung-fu. So he is already quite muscular. So you need to shut up about thinking that you know all and everything there is to know abot Twilight and that stuff.
EDIT:
and Sam, he HAS an 8 PACK.
EDIT: person below me, I agree soooo much with you.
EDIT:
Asili S, if you were also a REAL Twilight fan, you would know that they wanted to keep everything ok, not get everyone replaced and mixed up. They signed him back on after some legal terms and discussions.

Well, they managed to make John Rhys Davies look like a dwarf in Lord of the Rings so they'll probably have some movie tricks up their sleeves.

i know that taylor lautner is not that tall and his body's small.. but he's doing all his best to look more stronger... about the height problem..?? i don't know, maybe there will be tricks..
i think (without looking at the height and body problem) taylor would still be the best actor for jacob... it's just my opinion... =)

They'll have to make him stand on a box. lol.
Or use CGI or something along those lines.
Or maybe, probably, he'll have to wear some kind of suit / padding to make him look bigger / stronger.

1).a small stick like legs can be fixed temporarily
inside the pants so it will not be visible,
2).getting six packs is very easy nowadays,,

Sorry, but Taylor isn't part of New Moon. The role of Jacob will be played by Michael Copon.
