Why doesn't ABC have a digital channel?
I have a digital tv and antenna and I can get digital as well as analog channels for every station except ABC and my27. My27 is a smaller station so I don't find it unbelievable that they aren't broadcasting digital yet but ABC?? I find it very hard to believe that ABC is still not broadcasting in digital seeing as they are one of the largest local stations in America.
I live in Dallas soo I don't think the station is low power and I highly doubt a company as large as ABC wouldn't "fund" stations near here...

WFAA DT is broadcasting in digital. I was at my brother's-in-law house in McKinney over Thanksgiving and he is having the same issues. I looked at the signal with some test equipment and it's not really the best.
According to what I can find, they will make changes after the analog shutdown and are supposed to have a slightly stronger signal. I told my brother-in-law to wait until about March and see what the final signal looks like.
I assume they didn't build out the digital facilities fully because they knew they were going to have to make a change after February.

What you're seeing is the gradual transition of basic cable (no box) channels to the company's digital packages for which a box will be required. All cable companies are doing it, and it's completed in many areas, including mine. Typically, they transfer a few channels at a time to the digital packages, such as you've seen, leaving you with little more than your local TV stations. In time, those will go also and connecting to the cable wall outlet without a box will get you nothing at all. In my area, the local company (Comcast) offers a free digital-to-analog converter for its basic customers affected by the switch. Call customer service at your cable company to see if this is what's happening and what recourse you have. If they're like Comcast, you'll wind up with a small converter to get the digital channels that you've lost, and no increase in your subscription.

Did you try scanning after 10 pm when the sky is clear? 1 o'clock in the morning is the best time to scan your TV. You might have to move your antenna around to different locations. I have the same problem with NBC. I'm almost afraid to scan for new channels because I'm afraid I'll lose NBC again. You could also buy a signal booster for your antenna.

ABC does broadcast in digital. It's likely that you're unable to get their broadcast signal on your antenna.
Check antennaweb.org to see how far the station is away from you.

WFAA-DT 8.1 is your Dallas area ABC digital affiliate and they are broadcasting now. As to why you are not receiving it, it is clearly an antenna problem. It could be as simple as your antenna is not pointed in the right direction or does not have adequate gain. Check http://www.antennaweb.org/

Maybe your ABC station is low power (LP). Low Power (LP) stations are not required to switch to digital. They will switch some time maybe in 2010 or 2011. Another cause is being low funded. The CBS station in Charlotte, NC had a Weather channel, in 2006, they shut it down. Maybe, you are too far away, or the station is just not ready yet. Some stations in Charlotte, NC still do not have digital sub-channels. Such as, our South Carolina ETV channel on 30 does not broadcast in digital.
