Tough riddle/logic problem - true lies? Good luck...?
Just a little riddle/logic problem to send your brain scrambling for a while. Here it goes...
Identical twins, Jack and John, suffer from a rare, dual personality disorder. In his normal state, Jack always tells the truth but in his altered state he always lies. John is the opposite - in his normal state he always lies and in his altered state he always tells the truth. And just in case, the identical twins are indistinguishable.
Question 1 - Suppose you meet one of the twins one day, what simple yes or no question can you ask him to determine whether he's Jack or John?
Question 2 - Suppose you again meet one of the twins, but instead of wanting to know who he is, you want to determine what state he is in. What simple yes or no question can you ask him?
Question 3 - Hope you're still with me here...now let's suppose that instead of wanting to know what state one brother is in, you want to know whether or not the brothers are in the same state (again, you're not determining who's who, just their state). What simple yes or no question would you ask?
Well, there it is. Make sure to justify your answers...er...questions. First one to answer all 3 questions correctly and justify their answers gets the points. Good luck...
Remember, the answers are all yes or no questions. And yes, all 3 questions have an answer to determine who they are or their state. Again, this is a tough one and don't forget to justify your answers...

Question 1 - Are you in your altered state? If he says no, he's Jack. If he say's yes, he's John.
Question 2 - Is he (the other brother) Jack? If he says no, he's in his normal state. If he says yes, he's in his altered state.
Question 3 - You would ask each brother separately, 'Are you John?'. If they both say the same thing, they're in the same state. If they give different answers, they're in different states. The question (#3) says that you can only ask one question, but it never says that you can't say that question twice.
Also, you could get both the brothers in the same room with you, and voila! They are in the same state! (geographically) This could be a trick question.

Impossible. No matter what your question is you cant tell who they are and what state they are in unless you take out their drivers license and ask them each the same question at the same time.
