Can I wear any (fun) bowtie with a tuxedo?

I was wondering what the rules were as far as wearing a non-traditional solid black bow tie with a tuxedo to a wedding.

I have a few nice non black bow ties already, can I wear them with a tux to a black-tie optional wedding or should I totally stick with black?

yes! any bow ties will go with go with a BLACK tux...i wouldnt wear a purple tux with a orange bow tie tho..

i personally wouldnt mix a navy blue bow tie or a brown one with a black tux.

just use your own descretion and im sure youll look fine! ;)

Depends on what you mean by "rules." Black, silk, and self-tied are the rules for classic style, and undeniably the most handsome option. I would strongly recommend it. I can vouch for this model:

The "Diamond Point Standard" shape is quite similar to what Daniel Craig wore in the last Bond film. Hint, hint.

All that said, weddings are lively occasions, and black-tie optional does leave some wiggle room. I would stick to black, but you will not earn much scorn for having some fun.
