Ipod classic "stuck" on hold..?

I have an ipod classic, and three times in the past couple weeks it does this thing where like, it will say that it's on hold but it's really not. The clickwheel and everything won't recognize that you're touching it and the screen will stay lit until the battery dies. While this is happening it won't recognize that I'm plugging it into the computer or anything. Once the batterys dead, i'll plug it in and then it'll go back to normal.

why is this happening!? heeelp.
