Is Sheds Aquarium in Downtown Chicago?

Me and my fiance are going to Chicago the first week in March. I was wondering if Sheds Aquarium is in downtown Chicago because that is the first place we are going when we get there on Friday. How far is it away from the Magnificent Mile? So far we are planning to stay at the Seneca and we are planning to go to the Art Institute on Saturday.

The Senneca is at the northern tip of the Mag Mile, which is about two miles north of the Shedd Aquarium & about a mile north of the Art Institute. So you're in a great location for shopping and restaurants, and not too far from the Museum Campus: Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium & Field Museum.

If you look at a map, your hotel is right by Water Tower around 900 N Michigan, the Museum Campus is right by Soldier Field or Roosevelt Road. There's plenty of public transportaion options to the museums near your hotel. The free trolley is not shut down, it's just not available until summer.

Ah man you should have gone in '08, they have a free trolly service (recently discontinued) that took you all over downtown and to the museum campus/solider field. But to answer your question yes, Sheds is close to downtown just south of the Mag mile. Public transportation should get you there easily. Look on the website for the Sheds though, I was there in late December and the "Stadium" part was closed which meant there we couldn't see the Whales, Dolphins, Penguins and some others, a little disappointing. The Art Institute is also south of the Mag Mile, but its the same street (the Mag mile is N. Michigan Ave. and the Art Institute is on S. Michigan Ave). Have fun man its an absolutely beautiful city!

Shedd Aquarium is South of the loop, you can get there by bus. There is parking. The planetarium and McCormick place are right there as well. There is an admission cost, and you can get tix via ticketmaster. From Michigan Ave to the Shedd would be about $12,00 ride for 1, and is about 6 miles south, right down Lake Shore Drive. The bus will cost about $2.50

Michigan avenue is very easy to get to. and the art institute is on Michigan ave. a cab ride from the shed to michigan ave. would be about 5 or 6 bucks depending on traffic. enjoy Chicago. hope its not too cold for you.
