Biodiesel turns to gel in extreme cold, School buses dont work in Minnesota...?

Check this out:

http://www.startribune.com/local/south/37748654.ht...

What other unforeseeable issues are there with using Biodiesel and other Alternative Fuels?

Update:

Celtic:

It actually takes 65 gallons of gasoline to make 1 gallon of E85 (ethanol gasoline mix)

Update 2:

I also realize that this is a problem with ALL diesel engines but biodiesel would start to be affected by the cold before regular diesel since regular diesel has more additives to prevent this.

the process of making biodiesel has just as many hazards and wastes as making regular diesel, so even that step is not any more "green" than regular diesel.

I consider myself an environmentalist but even I have a problem with Bio-diesel and Ethanol. I wasn't aware of how much water went into production but that doesn't surprise me. It actually takes twice as much oil to make a tank of Ethanol than would be used to make a regular tank of gasoline. Also the amount of grain that goes into making a tank of Ethanol could feed a family of four in most third world countries for a week. Ethanol and Bio-diesel do not actually help the environment. But they are Al Gore's favorite lobby and so he made sure they got all the positive press and all the subsidy money.

Actually this is a problem with all Diesel powered vehicles. That is why in cold climates most diesel vehicles have insulated fuel lines and even heated fuel systems. I learned this the hard way the first time I drove a diesel powered truck from California to Colorado in winter weather.

It's problem with ALL diesel fuel, the regular diesel uses additives to help keep the problem in check, also every diesel I've ever seen had fuel line heaters, some even have fuel tank heater to keep the fuel form gelling up.

Unforeseeable? Not many. This argument was one of many used when conversion to unfit energy alternatives for the sake of political correctness began. The largest complaint against bio fuel is the amount of fresh water consumed in the production phase..check it out.

Following too close behind will smell like rotten french fries. The fuel actually pollute worse than conventional fuels.

Why our government insists on using corn based ethanol over sugar based ethanol is beyond me.

I don't know if this would alleviate any issues with the bitter cold (doubt it would) but I know its much more efficiently made.

Apparently their extreme wish to become an *environmentally friendly* community stopped their brains for working..............LOL

    There goes their sign!!!!!!!!!!
