What do you think of the Pope reinstating a bishop who is a Holocaust denier?
Pope Benedict is considering reinstating the British bishop, Richard Williamson, who said:
"I believe there were no gas chambers ... I think that 200,000 to 300,000 Jews perished in Nazi concentration camps but none of them by gas chambers."
"There was not one Jew killed by the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies!"
I think Christians need to be understanding the enormous role the church has played in the persecution of the Jews for 2,000 years, not elevate those who deny it.
The word persecution is a bit of a euphemism. It's been outright attempted annihilation and murder and, yes, the church (both Catholic and Protestant) have been complicit in it.
Bloggers, I have a hard time seeing, "There was not one Jew killed by the gas chambers" as just a disagreement over the figures.
Lawrence, a lot of us are actively praying for that to never happen again. Hopefully a lot of us would stand with you, if it did.
Bloggers, the quote says "gas chambers," and so does the Wikipedia link you provided.
Dustbunny! Nice to see you out from under the bed.

Hello CMW!
I missed ya!
There is a saying; "they listen to a different drummer". The Church of Rome or the Roman Catholic Church has a varied history of denial in many areas and has a penchant for making "Miriam of Nazareth" equal to her Son Jesus. Pious the 12th did what he could to help the Jews but in the end it was truly more the Catholic Priests that did the little help done by the Church of Rome.
Hmmm, can we talk? 'both" Inquisitions, The Crusades, The Indians well the list is pretty long so I don't wish to bore anyone but suffice to say the Jews were even into this century a target of the Catholic's ah,... shall we say scrutiny? "If you are not Catholic you are an apostate and going to hell" That was said by numerous Popes including the Borgia Popes! They like the JWs have their own version of the Bible---does that tell you anything as in we don't like what Jesus said so lets change it.
I know many Catholics and love them dearly but religiously most are very uneducated in the Bible or pick and choose what to believe.
Oh, did I mention Northern Ireland?
I just go hide over here before the Jesuits come to get me.
Bye bye! hehehe!

He's not reinstating Williamson as a bishop. Williamson was illegally made a bishop and he was excommunicated for that reason. The pope is simply lifting his excommunication.
Williamson doesn't deny the Holocaust at all; he merely disputes the numbers and the killing methods. Almost any subject area of history is incomplete when it comes to exact facts and figures. Some historians say that the genocide of the native Americans was as few as 50 million killed; others say 100 million. Does that make those who claim 50 million "holocaust deniers"? Of course not.
Anyone who would attempt to exclude someone because their historical facts and figures don't agree with their own is much more dangerous than the person who has a "wrong" answer.
EDIT:
Saying that victims weren't killed in the ovens is a dispute over the killing methods. If saying that victims weren't killed in ovens makes him a Holocaust denier, then apparently Wikipedia is too, because they don't mention ovens as an execution method.

EDIT:
I take it back, you're right that he's denying the gas chambers (as you said). I was under the impression that he was denying the use of the ovens for killing.
His views are indeed outrageous and I understand now that they do indeed constitute holocaust denial, but he wasn't excommunicated for them; he was excommunicated for participating in a ceremony where he was falsely made a bishop.

After having the Onslow County Gestapo pick me up, I feel that the Pope should not allow this person to be a Bishop or have any role in the Catholic Church.
Just an aside. I believe that Jewish people in every country including the USA should have weapons hidden for the time they come for us.

As I see it, it is irrelevant what is being done in the vatican. It's just another compounding blindness added to them, of which is being perpetrated by idol worshipers, and of no consequence in getting aroused by it.
However even though as I stated: "and of no consequence in getting aroused by it".We could receive the effects of their decisions and for this reason alone "I think" there should be protests, since the only way a Holocaust could ever happen again G-d forbid is letting people who hold bad ideals to become leaders.

well, hat do you expect? The pope himself was a nazi, and still promotes nazi doctrine against gays and jews.
He is clearly leading a big nazi revival in his church
