How long do you think it will be before the UN trys to get rid of all religion?
Religion has been the source of all wars and uses their power to lead nations in wrong directions......The United Nations has begun to realize this.
You might remember this one from 2004. A group known as formulism tried to propose the following resolution to the United Nations:
WE THE PEOPLES OF THE UNITED NATIONS HEREBY VOW
* to save succeeding generations from the scourge of organized religion, a folly which has brought untold sorrow to mankind through the division, hatred and conflict it engenders, and
* to reaffirm an individual’s right to freedom of belief, freedom of conscience and freedom of prayer, and
* to establish conditions under which these freedoms can be privately exercised.

Actually you couldn't be more wrong. Really, you couldn't.
I won't blame it all on your ignorance but how can I avoid blaming a great deal of it on that !!!
For here is what was said :
Article 18
Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion;
this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief,
and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
"On 10 December 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the full text of which appears in the following pages. Following this historic act, the Assembly called upon all Member countries to publicize the text of the Declaration and "to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on the political status of countries or territories."
BUT HERE IS WHAT I DON"T GET : HOW CAN YOU NOT BE PROFOUNDLY ASHAMED AND EMBARRASSED ?
You talk about the UN are in the utter dark about its most famous pronouncement.

Sadly the UN has become more and more irrelevant as the world slowly devolves into religious and tribal conflicts. The ideals behind the UN are worthy but until we, as a species, truly begin to understand it is in our own best interests to set aside old hatreds and superstitions, we are doomed as a race.
.....and it doesn't help that the only remaining super power is still somewhat controlled by end of days evangelicals who seem, and you'll pardon the pun, hell bent on seeing the end of the world come sooner than later.
EDIT: on another note, given some of the rather dubious answers to this question, things are not looking hopeful.

we are unlikely to "get rid" of religion. ideals will constantly been around. they have been right here as a results of fact the initiating and it is obtrusive it is not going away any time quickly. The decline is interior the main religions, often monotheist religions and specially as a results of fact the texts and teachings are for those primitive circumstances they have been written in. in case you look heavily, you will locate those leaving those religions could say they are non-religious, yet might nonetheless perceive with a concept in a much better skill. So no, i do no longer see it going away. yet i'm very happy to work out it particularly is changing. we could desire to be performed with people questioning they are religious authority figures attempting to regulate the flocks and basically enable people have their ideals. And shop that crap out of our gov't. we don't decide on Pat Robertson making regulations for anybody. Mickey, hun, advert grow to be extra 1000's of yrs after Jesus. LOL people such as you're so humorous.

Never. You can't force someone to not believe in something, and even if you could its so wrong. I do think that Religion may die out in time, just because more and more people are becoming more and more educated. I went to a Catholic High school where all of my friends were devout catholics. We've been in University for 1 term, and NONE of them still believe. I'm just saying that its clearly beginning to die out a bit.
But I dont think that the end of religion will equal world peace. I think that fighting and wars are a part of human nature, and as long as we are all homo sapiens, there will be war, and fighting. That doesnt mean we shouldnt try to stop, but I just think that ending religion is not the answer.

According to the Bible, TRUE religion is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, house the homeless, bring comfort to those who mourn, forgive those who wrong you, and treat others the way you want to be treated.
Your question is arrogant and presumptuous to say that this is the source of all wars! What nonsense!
Furthermore, greed, not religion, has been the source of most wars, until just very recently when Islam started committing terrorist acts.
So, what's YOUR problem? Are you a hateful person who wants to see people starving without lifting even a little finger to help? What kind of monster ARE you, anyway? Maybe YOU are the cause of wars - your bronze-age hate against those in need!

Considering that the UN has approximately the same amount of power and influence over the world's people as Carrot Top, does it really matter what the UN's policies are?

The UN seems to be putting down the red carpet for religion. They've already decided it's not nice for us to criticize religion.

The United Nations are a joke, they bow to religious intimidation and demands of respect.

Nah - they are not a-religious. There is nothing in their charter about separating church and state, so it does not matter how much chaos a given faith generates, they will just work around it.
